Florida AG Reaches $1 Million Agreement with International Cell Phone Content Provider

August 8, 2008 -- TALLAHASSEE, FL – Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum today announced that his office has reached a $1 million settlement with a Hong Kong-based company that creates and distributes content for cell phones. Building on earlier agreements with advertising networks and a major wireless carrier, the agreement with MobileFunster, Inc., which does business as FunMobile, is the first CyberFraud agreement the Attorney General’s Office has negotiated with a mobile content provider and addresses another link in a business model that includes wireless carriers, billing aggregators, advertising networks, and content providers like FunMobile.    » read more »

Economic Freedom Index Shows Some Improvements

16 January 2008 -- The latest annual index of economic freedom ranks Hong Kong and Singapore on top for the 14th consecutive time. The Heritage Foundation survey shows economic freedom has improved slightly in the last year.

There is little change from the previous year, with four Asia Pacific economies and three from Europe placed in the top 10. The United States ranked fifth behind Australia and Ireland. Chile ranked eighth.    » read more »

Pro-Democracy Leader Wins Hong Kong's By-Election

03 December 2007 -- The former head of Hong Kong's civil service, Anson Chan, has won a hotly contested by-election for a seat in the city's legislature, in a vote widely seen as a referendum on democratic reform.

In one of the most closely watched elections since the territory was returned to China a decade ago, Anson Chan secured nearly 55 percent of the vote. Her pro-Beijing opponent, Regina Ip, won 43-percent.
