HUD And VA To Provide Permanent Housing For An Estimated 10,000 Homeless Veterans

$75 million program to reduce the number of homeless vets nationwide; $9.4 million awarded to New York City to permanently house more than 1,000 homeless veterans

April 16, 2008 -- New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary James B. Peake and U.S. Housing and Urban Development Deputy Secretary Roy A. Bernardi today announced $75 million to provide permanent supportive housing for an estimated 10,000 homeless veterans nationwide.

Alabama Governor Riley Honored for Work to Prevent Homelessness

April 10, 2008 -- MONTGOMERY – Alabama Governor Bob Riley was honored today by the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness for his initiative to prevent homelessness in Alabama. Governor Riley became only the fourth governor to receive the Council’s Home for Every American Award, which was presented during a ceremony at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Vermont Awarded Over $2.5 Million to Support Homeless Programs

January 16, 2008 -- Randolph, Vt. — Vermont Governor Jim Douglas and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Regional Director Taylor Caswell were at the Clara Martin Center in Randolph today to announce over $2.5 million in funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support homelessness projects around the state.

This funding, part of $1.5 billion awarded nationwide, supports 16 homeless programs across the state and 5 programs in Chittenden County.    » read more »
