Rutgers Prof. Gloria Bonilla-Santiago Named Recipient of 2007 Mujer Award from the National Hispanic Leadership Institute

September 04, 2007, CAMDEN -- Gloria Bonilla-Santiago, the Board of Governors Distinguished Service Professor of Urban Studies at Rutgers University—Camden, has been named the recipient of the 2007 National Mujer Award from the National Hispana Leadership Institute.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Smithsonian

Aug. 31, 2007 -- From Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, the Smithsonian celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of performances, lectures, exhibitions, family activities and tours at various museums around the Institution. All programs are free, unless otherwise indicated.

Feature Event
The Smithsonian will present "An Afternoon with Carmen Lomas Garza" Sunday, Sept. 16 in the S. Dillon Ripley Center. A family festival will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., and an adult program will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m.    » read more »

Los Angeles Angels, KWKW ESPN Deportes Reach Spanish Radio Broadcast Agreement

08/21/2007, ANAHEIM, CA - The Los Angeles Angels Tuesday announced the club has reached an agreement with KWKW ESPN Deportes on a five-year contract to air Angels Baseball in Spanish during the 2008-2012 Major League Baseball seasons in an announcement made by club President Dennis Kuhl and KWKW President Jim Kalmenson.

KWKW ESPN Deportes (1330 AM) will broadcast all of the Angels' regular season games and any postseason contests. In case of programming conflicts, the games may be aired on KWKW's affiliate station, KWKU (1220 AM).    » read more »

Indiana Attorney General Alerts Hispanic Community of Enhanced Disclosure Requirements for Notarios Publicos

July 09, 2007 -- INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A person advertising as a Notario Publico must now provide certain disclosures under enhancements to Indiana law announced Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter. The new provisions for notary publics that would advertise their services as a Notario Publico took effect July 1, 2007.

Carter is also reminding people that while in Mexico a notario publico is a distinguished attorney, in the U.S. almost anyone can become a notary public. The designation only entitles one to act as a state-authorized witness.    » read more »

Consumer Alert: Human Smuggling Scams Targeting the Indiana Hispanic Community

May 1, 2007 -- INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter is cautioning the Hispanic community about a human smuggling scam that is targeting Indiana families. Scam artists are calling, claiming to have successfully smuggled a family member across the border and threatening to hold him/her in custody until they receive payment through wire transfer.
