CA Gov. Schwarzenegger Announces Groundbreaking of Largest Highway Project in the Nation Through ARRA

05/08/2009 -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the construction groundbreaking of the largest highway project in the nation using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) funds known to date.
On hold since 2001, the over $1 billion I-405 Sepulveda Pass Widening Project in Los Angeles is proceeding due to the state’s quick and effective implementation of the Recovery Act. The project will utilize $190 million in state expedited Recovery Act funding and is anticipated to create an estimated 18,000 jobs. » read more »
Iowa Governor Culver Announces $31 Million In City Street And County Road Projects
Projects funded in total or part with federal recovery dollars
May 5, 2009 -- DES MOINES – Iowa Governor Chet Culver today announced 27 city street and county road projects valued at more than $31 million were let by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) as part of the second round of local projects funded in total or part through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Acceptance of low-bid proposals and the awarding of contracts are subject to local governmental approval. The low bids for all 27 projects totaled $31,020,909.47. Of that amount, $21,193,965.37 in funds from the Recovery Act have been authorized for the projects. The remaining $9,826,944.10 in project costs will be paid for with other funds. » read more »
Georgia Governor Perdue Certifies $187 Million in Stimulus Road Projects
May 5, 2009 -- ATLANTA – Today Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue announced that he has submitted the required “1511 Certification” on 51 road projects around the state that will be funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). These projects, together with the list certified in April, represent all of the projects that are eligible for certification at present.

Wisconsin Governor Doyle Announces Nearly $9 Million in Savings on Bids for Road, Bridge Projects
April 28, 2009 -- MADISON – Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle today announced the bids for the first road and bridge projects in Wisconsin funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act came in 7.2% lower than expected for a savings of $8,910,690. Rhode Island Governor Carcieri & RIDOT Invest Additional $20 Million In Local Roads
March 25, 2009 -- Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri and the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) are announcing the availability of $20.15 million for local roadway improvements through the Rhode Island Local Equity Aid Program or RI-LEAP. RI-LEAP is being funded by RIDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) so that resurfacing and sidewalk replacements can take place in all of the Ocean State’s 39 cities and towns. » read more »
Georgia Governor Perdue Commends Passage of Super Speeder Legislation
March 25, 2009 -- ATLANTA – Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue today commended the final passage of “Super Speeder” legislation, HB 160, by the General Assembly. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Jim Cole and will help reduce traumatic automobile accidents and provide funds for trauma care in the state. The legislation passed the House 113-53 and passed the Senate 42-10.

First North Carolina Economic Recovery Transportation Contracts Awarded
Construction to begin in April
3/24/2009 -- North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue announced today that work will begin in April on the state’s first nine highway and bridge projects funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The contracts total $36.3 million and were awarded today by Transportation Secretary Gene Conti to the lowest respective bidders, as required by state law. A list of the projects is attached.

First Recovery Funds Awarded for Nebraska State Road Improvements
March 17, 2009 -- (Lincoln, Neb.) -- Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman today announced the distribution of more than $25 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for upgrades to state highways. The seven projects are the first in a series of roads projects to be awarded ARRA funding.
In addition, the Governor announced the next series of contracts to be put out for bid by the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR). Bid letting is scheduled for April 16, with contracts to be awarded soon after.

Indiana Gov. Daniels Sends Transportation Secretary State Plans For Highway Stimulus Funds
INDIANAPOLIS -- March 13, 2009 -- Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels today sent a letter to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood outlining the state's plan for $658 million in highway infrastructure stimulus funds Indiana is expected to receive.
Keeping with the intent of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and the direction of President Obama, Indiana has moved quickly to finalize a plan to commit all of the stimulus highway funds. Daniels said the state's portion will be obligated by the end of May.
According to ARRA, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will receive $440 million, local agencies will receive $198 million and $20 million is dedicated for transportation enhancement projects, which includes trails, sidewalks and stoplights. » read more »
