DoD Identifies 14 Army Casualties Killed in Iraq Helicopter Crash

August 23, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of 14 soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died Aug. 22 in Multaka, Iraq, of injuries suffered when their helicopter crashed.

Killed were the following soldiers assigned to the 4th Squadron, 6th U.S. Air Cavalry Regiment, Fort Lewis, Wash.:

Capt. Corry P. Tyler, 29, of Georgia.

Chief Warrant Officer Paul J. Flynn, 28, of Whitsett, N.C.

Sgt. Matthew L. Tallman, 30, of Groveland, Calif.

Iraq War: 14 US Soldiers Die in Helicopter Crash in Northern Iraq

22 August 2007 -- The U.S. military says an American helicopter has crashed in northern Iraq, killing all 14 soldiers on board.

The military says initial indications are that the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crashed Wednesday as a result of a mechanical malfunction. The military says there are no indications of hostile fire. An investigation into the crash is underway.

In the northern city of Baiji, Iraqi police say a suicide truck bomber attacked a police station, killing at least 19 people and wounding dozens more. The victims include both police and civilians.    » read more »

Utah Governor Huntsman Calls for Utah Army National Guard Stand-down, Fleet Inspection

Salt Lake City - After the Apache helicopter crash Monday evening, Utah Governor Jon Huntsman called for a mandatory stand-down of the Utah Army National Guard aircraft. The stand-down, with necessary exception, will continue through a preliminary review of the incident and any appropriate inspection of all helicopters.

He issued the following statement:

E-2C Hawkeye Crashes, Navy Conducting Search

8/16/2007 ATLANTIC OCEAN (NNS) -- A Navy E-2C Hawkeye aircraft from Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 120 crashed at sea Aug. 15, while conducting operations on the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75).

Three aviators were aboard the aircraft. An air and sea search is being conducted by units from Harry S. Truman, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The identities of the crew are not being released at this time.    » read more »
