Major Powers Agree on Contents of New Iran UN Resolution
22 January 2008 -- Foreign ministers of the five permanent U.N. Security Council members and Germany said Tuesday they have agreed on the contents of a new sanctions resolution against Iran over its nuclear program. U.S. officials say it will toughen travel bans and asset freezes against Iranian leaders.

NCAA Reinstates Iowa State Basketball Student-Athlete
Wednesday, November 28, 2007, INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff has reinstated the eligibility of Iowa State University basketball student-athlete Lucca Staiger.
Staiger, a freshman at Iowa State, will be required to sit out the 2007-08 season of competition while being charged a season of eligibility, as a condition of his reinstatement for playing 82 games on a professional team in Germany prior to enrollment at the university. Bruce Springsteen Kicks Off North American Tour
Washington, 28 September 2007 -- On September 28, Bruce Springsteen kicked off a North American tour in support of his new album Magic. He launched the 23-date outing in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
After wrapping up concerts in Boston, Massachusetts on November 19, the band will head to Europe where 13 concerts are scheduled in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, the U.K. and France.

Germany Wins 2nd Straight FIFA Women's World Cup
30 September 2007, Shanghai (By John Stevenson) -- Germany has won the Women's World Cup football tournament in China. VOA's Jim Stevenson reports from Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai, where the Germans scored a 2-0 victory over Brazil to become the first team to claim consecutive titles in a major women's football competition.

Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie Breaks Marathon World Record
30 September 2007 -- Ethiopian runner Haile Gebrselassie has set a new world record for the marathon.
Running in the Berlin Marathon in the German capital Sunday the 34-year-old Gebrselassie had near ideal conditions for his challenge.
His winning time was two hours, four minutes and 26 seconds - 29 seconds faster than the previous record set by Kenya's Paul Tergat on the same Berlin course in 2003.

A thick haze shrouded Olympic Stadium when the game kicked off Wednesday. A breeze began to blow, and visibility improved as the outcome of the game also became clear.

23 September 2007 -- The United States will host Russia in the Davis Cup tennis World Group final in November, after the U.S. defeated Sweden 4-1 in Goteburg and Russia held off Germany 3-2 in Moscow.
Andy Roddick served 16 aces Sunday to beat host-Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman, 6-2, 7-6, 6-4 to clinch a semifinal victory. James Blake beat Simon Aspelin of Sweden, 6-1, 6-3, in a dead-rubber match to make the final in the best-of-five series, 4-1.
