New Law Will Give Law Enforcement More Tools To Prosecute Gang Activity

Columbia, S.C. - June 12, 2007 - South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford today signed S.141, a new law aimed at cracking down on criminal gangs in South Carolina by giving law enforcement more tools to prosecute gang activity.

Known as the Criminal Gang Prevention Act, the new law will better define a criminal gang, and give the State Grand Jury additional powers in prosecuting gang activity. As well, the new law will establish a SLED database for tracking gang activity in the state.    » read more »

Authored by state Rep. Richard Morrissette (D-Oklahoma City) and Sen. Roger Ballenger (D-Okmulgee), House Bill 1895 creates the Oklahoma Youth and Gang Violence Coordinating Council. 05/25/2007 -- California Governor Schwarzenegger today proposed an anti-gang initiative to fight gang violence in California.
