Air Force Supports International Paris Air Show

G8: George W. Bush, Vladimir Putin to Meet at G8 Summit

07 June 2007 -- U.S. President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin meet Thursday in Germany amid renewed tensions between the two sides.

The presidents will hold talks on the sidelines of the Group of Eight summit at the German Baltic Sea port of Heiligendamm.

Mr. Putin is angry at U.S. plans to install a missile defense system in Europe, calling it a threat to Russian security, and he vowed to aim his nation's missiles at the region if the system is built.    » read more »

West Africans Anticipate New Relationship With France

15 May 2007 -- France's president-elect, Nicolas Sarkozy, will be inaugurated on Wednesday. Some West Africans, uneasy over Sarkozy's campaign statements on immigration and the status of immigrants, say they worry about their countrymen living in France as well as about the impact on Africa of Sarkozy's presidency. But some African analysts say they think Sarkozy will be good for French-speaking Africa, which, they say, relies too heavily on aid from its former colonizer. Conservative Sarkozy Elected President of France, Defeating Segolene Royal

06 May 2007 -- France has chosen a conservative candidate as its next president. Preliminary results based on exit polls showed Nicolas Sarkozy was elected with 53 per cent of the vote. That gave him a comfortable lead over his opponent, Socialist Party candidate Segolene Royal.
