July 02, 2007 -- FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Department of Tourism is working to help the small Central Kentucky town of Springfield in its effort to host the world premiere of “The Simpsons Movie” later this month.

02 July 2007 -- The documentary filmmaker, whose latest movie Sicko opened nationwide June 29, met Borat creator Sasha Baron Cohen at last year's Toronto International Film Festival.
Cohen screened Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. It went on to gross more than $100 million. Animated Film 'Ratatouille' Tops US Weekend Box Office
02 July 2007 -- An animated rat feasted on last weekend's U.S. box office championship. Ratatouille, Pixar's computer-generated tale of a rodent who gets to cook in a French restaurant, topped the Stateside tally with $47.2 million.
This is the lowest opening figure for Disney's Pixar Animation unit since 1998, when A Bug's Life took in $33.3 million. The next five Pixar films, among them Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo, and last year's Cars, enjoyed opening weekends between $57.4 million and $70.5 million. » read more »

Harry Potter Hopes to Enchant Theme Park Visitors
31 May 2007 -- Harry Potter, the fictional young wizard who is the hero of best-selling books and movies, is getting his own theme park in Florida.
The Warner Brothers movie company, which has sold billions of dollars worth of tickets to various Harry Potter films, is teaming up with Universal's Orlando, Florida resort in a deal they hope will enchant visitors.

New York, NY (May 14, 2007) – The announcement made by the MPAA to include the presence and depiction of tobacco use in movies as a “factor” in its rating system does not adequately address public health concerns.
Smoking in movies is a significant problem that needs to be addressed. The American Lung Association believes that tobacco use should be eliminated from new movies – especially those intended for children, teens and general audiences. » read more »
India's Bollywood Actress Appeals Obscenity Case
14 May 2007 -- Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has asked India's Supreme Court to move an obscenity case against her and Hollywood actor Richard Gere to a nearby court.
Shetty's lawyer, Anand Grover, asked the court to transfer the case to Mumbai, where she lives. Her lawyer also asked for a stay on the proceedings against Shetty.
The case stems from a public appearance by Shetty and Gere, who repeatedly kissed and hugged the Bollywood star at an AIDS awareness event in April. » read more »
