EPA: One Million Energy Star Homes Built in the U.S

PHILADELPHIA (November 12, 2009) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today reaches a milestone for the Energy Star program by passing the one millionth Energy Star qualified home mark. Number 15 on the list of the top 20 markets for Energy Star built homes, the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington area has 12,455 Energy Star qualified homes.

These Energy Star homes are saving the equivalent to eliminating emissions from 667 vehicles, saving 4,034,004 pounds of coal and planting 1,102 acres of trees, and saving the environment 7,911,493 pounds of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.    » read more »

Taxpayers have until Nov. 30 to take advantage of the tax savings

Nov. 5, 2009 -- CHARLESTON, W.Va.— West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin today reminded West Virginians that the last day to take advantage of the State’s second ENERGY STAR® Sales Tax Holiday is Nov. 30, 2009.

Since Sept. 1, West Virginians will not have to pay sales and use tax on certain ENERGY STAR® qualified products valued at $5,000 or less. Tangible personal property for use in a trade or business is not subject to this sales tax holiday.    » read more »

Letter to Agencies Calls for Consumer Protection Measures

Washington, DC – Last week, Congressman Harry Teague lead a group of 30 House members in sending a letter to Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Steven Chu and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Lisa Jackson calling for more accurate reporting of ENERGY STAR ratings. Two recent reports released by both the Inspector General of the DOE and EPA have placed the integrity of the label in question, citing unqualified appliances that have received the energy-efficiency moniker. Progress Energy Receives 2009 Energy Star Leadership In Housing Award

RALEIGH (June 16, 2009) -- Progress Energy has been selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a recipient of the 2009 Energy Star Leadership in Housing Award. The award recognizes the utility for its efforts to promote energy-efficient construction and environmental protection in the Carolinas.

The company's Home Advantage program provides incentives to residential builders to construct new homes that meet or exceed EPA Energy Star standards for efficiency. Energy Star-certified homes provide customers with at least 15 percent greater efficiency than standard homes. Televisions Must Meet New Requirements to Earn Energy Star

Washington, D.C., Feb. 5, 2008 -- Today EPA is announcing a revised Energy Star specification for televisions. Effective Nov. 1, 2008, TVs that carry the Energy Star label will be up to 30 percent more efficient than conventional models and will save energy while they are on and when they are off.
