August 20, 2007 -- (Oklahoma City) Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry today declared a state of emergency in 24 Oklahoma counties hit hard over the weekend by the remnants of Tropical Storm Erin. High winds and flooding have caused severe damage in many communities around the state.

Today’s disaster declaration is the first step toward seeking federal assistance. In addition, Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management officials are in the midst of preliminary damage assessments to determine the extent of damages.    » read more »

Governor traveling to southeastern Minnesota to meet with local officials

August 19, 2007 -- Saint Paul - Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has declared a state of emergency for Winona, Wabasha, Fillmore, Houston, Steele and Olmsted counties in southeastern Minnesota due to the heavy rain and flooding that is causing road, infrastructure and life safety issues. The Governor and Public Safety Commissioner Michael Campion are in southeastern Minnesota this afternoon to meet with officials about the emergency response.    » read more »

August 20, 2007 -- (BOISE) – With more counties across Idaho affected by wildfires almost daily, Idaho Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter issued a statewide “disaster emergency” declaration today.

The declaration came at the request of the state Bureau of Homeland Security, which cited the growing risk to life and property as a result of uncontrolled wildfires. The state of disaster will remain in place for 30 days unless terminated, changed or extended for another 30-day period.    » read more »

08/19/2007 -- Based on the imminent threat of the Zaca Fire in Ventura County, California Governor Schwarzenegger today proclaimed a State of Emergency in that county. The fire is quickly approaching the Ventura/Santa Barbara County line, posing a threat to people and property in Ventura County. It began on July 4, 2007 in Santa Barbara County and has burned more than 180,000 acres. The Governor proclaimed a State of Emergency in Santa Barbara County on August 3, 2007 in response to this fire, which is currently 75 percent contained.    » read more »

August 14, 2007 -- (Lincoln, NE) Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman today signed a proclamation declaring a state of emergency in response to several wildfires in the Nebraska Panhandle. August 13, 2007 -- HONOLULU - Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle has signed an emergency disaster proclamation a day before Hurricane Flossie is expected to make its closest approach to the State.

The proclamation, which includes the entire state, authorizes Hawai‘i’s Adjutant General to “activate such units of the Hawai‘i National Guard as may be necessary to assist and aid civilian authorities in disaster relief and averting any imminent public danger and threat and to ensure the compliance with the civil laws of the State of Hawai‘i.”    » read more »
