Virginia Governor Kaine Declares State of Emergency to Coordinate Response to Wildfires

February 10, 2008 -- RICHMOND – Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine today declared a state of emergency in the Commonwealth of Virginia, directing state agencies to take all necessary actions to aid in the response to multiple wildfires that have broken out in numerous areas across the Commonwealth.

A declaration of emergency allows the Governor to immediately deploy state personnel, equipment, and other emergency response resources, and to coordinate state and local response to the event.    » read more »

Alabama Governor Riley Requesting Federal Assistance, Declares State of Emergency in Three Counties

February 07, 2008 -- MONTGOMERY - Alabama Governor Bob Riley will seek a federal disaster declaration for areas of north Alabama hit by tornadoes on Wednesday. In addition, the Governor has declared a State of Emergency exists in Jackson, Lawrence and Walker counties.

Six deaths in Alabama have been attributed to the storms and dozens of homes have been destroyed or damaged. Local and state responders have been assessing damage and helping communities begin the recovery process.    » read more »

Navajo Nation in State of Flood Emergency

Jan. 31 -- The Navajo County Board of Supervisors has declared a Flood Emergency Jan. 29. The declaration recognized the Navajo Nation State of Emergency Declaration and the White Mountain Apache Natural Disaster Declaration.

The Little Colorado River has receded from the flood stage levels reported Jan. 30 by at least a foot at 5 p.m.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs determined it was safe to allow traffic to cross the south bridge at the intersection of Route 71 and Route 2.    » read more »
