Texas Rangers Assign Two Players to Minor League Camp

03/25/2008, Surprise, Ariz. -- The Texas Rangers announced on Tuesday the following transactions for the team's Spring Training roster:

Optioned to Minor League camp:
RHP Frank Francisco

Reassigned to Minor League camp:
RHP Eric Hurley

With these moves, the Texas Rangers now have 35 players on the Spring Training roster, including five non-roster invitees. That figure does not include pitchers Omar Beltre and Alexi Ogando, who remain on the club's restricted list due to visa issues in the Dominican Republic.

Dominican Republic Flooding Kills 22

13 December 2007 -- Emergency officials in the Dominican Republic say at least 22 people have been killed in flooding caused by Tropical Storm Olga. Many of the victims were killed by waters released from a hydroelectric dam.

Dominican officials say they were forced to release waters from the Tavera Dam late Wednesday to prevent the structure from collapsing under the weight of heavy rains. The decision allowed millions of liters of water to flow into the swollen Yaque River in the northern province of Santiago.    » read more »

Storm Victims will Receive Clothing, Food from New Yorkers

November 23, 2007 -- New York Governor Eliot Spitzer today announced that much-needed aid in the form of clothing, furniture, and canned goods from generous New Yorkers has been sent to survivors of Tropical Storm Noel in the Dominican Republic.

The goods, which were collected by National Guard soldiers at the Kingsbridge Armory in the Bronx, are enough to fill eight 20-foot-long shipping containers.    » read more »

Tropical Storm Noel Approaches Bahamas After Killing 13 in Dominican Republic

30 October 2007 -- A tropical storm is bringing heavy rain to the Bahamas as it approaches the island chain after killing at least 13 people in the Dominican Republic.

Dominican officials say Tropical Storm Noel caused severe flooding and landslides Monday, blocking roads and cutting power in many areas. Authorities also were forced to shut the airport in the capital, Santo Domingo. Several people were reported missing.

Noel also brought heavy rain to neighboring Haiti, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.    » read more »
