Iowa Lt. Governor Judge, Attorney General Miller Urge Ice Storm Victims To Be Wary Of Contractor Promises
December 18, 2007 -- DES MOINES – Today, Iowa Lt. Governor Patty Judge and Attorney General Tom Miller urged Iowans who have been affected by last week’s ice storms to use caution when selecting a contractor to help repair damages. The Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division (HSEMD) has received reports that some vendors are going door-to-door offering services or goods to help residents recover from the severe winter storm of last weekend while promising government reimbursement. Bangladesh Cyclone Victims Face New Threats of Disease, Starvation
21 November 2007 -- Aid continues to pour into Bangladesh, as relief workers struggle to reach survivors of last week's cyclone who now face the threat of disease and starvation.
Government officials said Wednesday they have reached the last remaining pockets of the country devastated by Cyclone Sidr, which killed over 3,500 people and impacted nearly 4 million others.
The military is flying helicopters and cargo planes to deliver badly needed food, medicine, tents and clean water to survivors who have received little or no supplies in nearly six days. » read more »

New York State Provides Property Tax Relief To Flood-Ravaged Southern Tier
November 16, 2007 -- New York Governor Eliot Spitzer today announced that more than 600 Southern Tier property owners who suffered catastrophic property damage during the 2006 floods are receiving property tax relief totaling more than $1 million.
As a result of the floods in the early summer of 2006, a federal disaster was declared for twenty counties. Thousands of New Yorkers saw their homes and businesses damaged and destroyed, significantly reducing property values. » read more »

PASADENA, Calif. -- Californians who suffered damages and losses as a result of the wildfires, and still have disaster-related unmet needs, may find help through long-term recovery committees.
Under the guidance of the Southern California Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters, long-term recovery committees are being formed in San Bernardino and San Diego Counties.
