May 19, 2009 -- Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today applauded the announcement by the Obama Administration that it intends to issue a proposed rule-making to increase fleetwide fuel economy standards for automobiles and light trucks to 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016.
The deal will align, or ensure functional equivalence between, the vehicular emission standards and fuel economy standards issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration (NHTSA), respectively. » read more »

Proposal would achieve 32 to 38 percent greater oil savings than House compromise
May 19, 2009 -- Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), and Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) today jointly announced an alternative ‘Cash for Clunkers’ proposal to encourage consumers to buy more fuel efficient vehicles.
Specifically, the Feinstein-Collins-Schumer counter proposal would require that the newly purchased vehicle have above-average fuel economy for its class of vehicles. The proposal would also require that the trade-in vehicle have a fuel economy of 17 miles per gallon (mpg) or less, instead of the 18 mpg in the House compromise.

Measure would level the playing field in energy futures markets
June 13, 2008 -- Washington, DC – In the wake of growing concerns about the impact of speculation, U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) have introduced legislation to require the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to impose the same position limits on institutional investors to which other investors now are subject. This legislation would essentially level the playing field in energy futures markets.
Under current law, CFTC is required to impose speculation limits on the size of energy trader positions. However, in practice, CFTC regularly exempts institutional investors from position limits, when investors execute their trades through brokers or dealers. » read more »
