Statement by DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff on Passenger Name Record Data

July 5, 2007 -- On Thursday, June 28, 2007, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble and EU Commissioner Franco Frattini initialed an international agreement between the United States and the European Union on the transfer of Passenger Name Record (PNR) data to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from air carriers operating transatlantic flights to and from the U.S.

US Steps Up Security Following Attack in Britain

01 July 2007 -- The United States is increasing transportation security after a car bombing and other attempted terror attacks in Britain in recent days. The top U.S. security official says although he sees no links to any specific attacks in the United States, he is worried about what he calls terrorist copy cats.

June 20, 2007 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Department of State (DOS) announced today the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for the land and sea portion of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), a core 9/11 Commission recommendation. U.S. Citizens With Pending Passport Applications Allowed Temporary Travel Flexibility Within Western Hemisphere

06/15/2007 -- Adults who have applied for but not yet received a passport should present government-issued photo identification and an official proof of application from the U.S. Department of State. Children under the age of 16 traveling with their parents or legal guardian will be permitted to travel with the child's proof of application. Travelers who have not applied for a passport should not expect to be accommodated. U.S. citizens with pending passport applications can obtain proof of application at U.S. Department of State web site.    » read more »

DHS Establishes Rail Test Center for Radiation Detection

May 11, 2007 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will soon begin conducting multiple projects in the Port of Tacoma, Wash., to evaluate technology and concepts of operations for radiation detection that will scan cargo at various points in transfer from ship to rail. By establishing a Rail Test Center (RTC) at the port, DHS will identify and evaluate radiological and nuclear detection solutions for intermodal rail port facilities that can be used across the country.    » read more »
