Arizona Newborn Screening Program Protects More Babies With New Test for Cystic Fibrosis

March 31, 2008 -- Until now, many Arizona children with cystic fibrosis were not diagnosed soon enough to help prevent or slow down serious medical problems caused by this disease. The Arizona Department of Health Services’ Newborn Screening Program began testing newborns for cystic fibrosis (CF) in October and has already identified six babies who will benefit from early diagnosis and treatment.

Illinois Governor Blagojevich Announces Cystic Fibrosis Screening Begins Today For All Illinois Newborns

State now tests for 37 disorders

March 3, 2008 -- CHICAGO – Illinois Governor Rod R. Blagojevich announced that today is the first day all newborns across Illinois will be screening for cystic fibrosis, a hereditary disease that affects mainly the lungs and digestive system, causing progressive disability. Dr. Damon T. Ibuprofen Can Slow Lung Disease in Children with Cystic Fibrosis, Canadian Study Shows

Toronto, ON (September 4, 2007) – The results of a clinical trial, published in late August in the Journal of Pediatrics, indicates that, when used as part of routine therapy, high-dose ibuprofen is safe, and effective in slowing down lung disease in children with cystic fibrosis (CF).

Headed by Dr. Larry Lands, Director of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine at Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre, the multi-centre study monitored 142 children aged six to 18 with mild lung disease over two years.    » read more »
