RAND: U.S. Must Focus on Protecting Critical Computer Networks from Cyber Attack
October 8, 2009 -- Because it will be difficult to prevent cyber attacks on critical civilian and military computer networks by threatening to punish attackers, the United States must focus its efforts on defending these networks from cyber attack, according to a new RAND Corporation study.
The study finds that the United States and other nations that rely on externally accessible computer networks—such as ones used for electric power, telephone service, banking, and military command and control—as a foundation for their military and economic power are subject to cyber attack. » read more »

Judge Finds Internet Affiliate Advertisers Violated Washington Spyware Law
May 02, 2008 -- SEATTLE – Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna today announced another win in the state’s fight to protect consumers from online fraud. A King County Superior Court judge found that Internet affiliate advertisers Securelink Networks, LLC, and NJC Softwares, LCC, and their officers violated Washington’s consumer protection and spyware laws while marketing registry-cleaner software.

'One Laptop Per Child' Project Hits Snag
04 January 2008 -- A project aimed at providing inexpensive computers for millions of children in developing countries has hit a snag.
The program is called "One Laptop Per Child" (OLPC) and the Intel Corporation is pulling out of the project.
Intel is the world's largest computer chipmaker, and it was providing money and expertise.
Intel officials left the board of directors of the OLPC non-profit group after a disagreement over the company's continuing support for its own effort to build and sell cheap laptops using new technology. » read more »
