Coast Guard: Pentagon Channel Follows as Coast Guard Patrols Perilous Passage

WASHINGTON, Aug. 30, 2007 – The September edition of the Pentagon Channel’s monthly documentary “Recon” will focus on the Coast Guard’s efforts in the Caribbean Sea’s most perilous waterway.

The show, titled “Perilous Passage,” will provide an inside look at the men and women of the Coast Guard who patrol Mona Passage, a treacherous 80-mile strait separating the islands of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. Coast Guard Deploys For Ohio Flood Response

Aug. 24, 2007 -- WASHINGTON - U.S. Coast Guard units from throughout the Great Lakes region are deployed to provide assistance to the state of Ohio with search-and-rescue and assistance for flood victims in the impacted areas.

Coast Guard operations began yesterday in Findlay, Ohio, where Coast Guard units assisted more than a dozen people.

The Coast Guard is responding with two Disaster Assistance Response Teams (DART), two 20-foot, flat-bottom fan boats, and helicopters from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit. In total, more than 50 Coast Guard members are responding.    » read more »

US Coast Guard Announces 1,109,310 Lives Saved Since 1790

August 4, 2007 -- Washington- The U.S. Coast Guard announced during a ceremony today in Grand Haven, Mich., for its 217th birthday that 1,109,310 lives have been saved since its establishment in 1790.

Since 1924, the residents of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg, Mich., have recognized the Coast Guard, the smallest of the armed forces, with an annual celebration. Connecticut Governor Rell Announces Lease Agreement Signed With U.S. Coast Guard at Fort Trumbull Development

August 3, 2007 -- Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that an agreement has been reached to house the U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center in a former naval building at the Fort Trumbull municipal development project in New London.

The U.S. General Services Administration has signed a lease with Corcoran Jennison LLC to renovate the former Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) building by October 2008. The project will offer the Coast Guard more than 46,000 square feet of rental space at 100 Chelsea Street, an area known as Parcel 3A.    » read more »

18 July 2007 -- WASHINGTON - The U.S. Coast Guard today announced the death of Adm. Owen W. Siler, 85, Coast Guard commandant from 1974 to 1978, who succumbed to heart failure last night.

"This is a sad day for the Coast Guard," said Adm. Thad Allen, commandant of the Coast Guard. "The Coast Guard lost a close member of our family and America has lost a great leader. Adm. The net collective result is 1,254 more reservists mobilized than last week.
