Eric Wedge Gives Cleveland Indians First MLB Manager Award

11/14/2007 -- Eric Wedge, who piloted the Cleveland Indians to the American League Central title and shared with the Boston Red Sox the best record in the majors in 2007, was elected AL Manager of the Year in balloting by the BBWAA. He is the first Cleveland manager honored with the award, which the BBWAA first presented in 1983.

Wedge was the only manager listed on all 28 ballots cast by two writers in each league city. He was first on 19, second on six and third on three to score 116 points, based on the 5-3-1 tabulation system. Wedge was the only manager named on every ballot.    » read more »

Boston Red Sox Wins American League Title, Advance to World Series

22 October 2007 -- The Boston Red Sox have defeated the Cleveland Indians, 11-2, to reach Major League Baseball's World Series.

Cleveland had led the best-of-seven American League Championship Series, 3-1, before Boston won three straight. In the decisive Game Seven Sunday at Fenway Park in Boston, the Red Sox opened a 2-0 lead early in the game.

Cleveland pulled to within one run. But with the score 3-2 in the seventh inning, Boston rookie second baseman Dustin Pedroia blasted a two-run home run to seal the victory. Pedroia drove in three more runs in the eighth inning.    » read more »

10/21/2007 -- Major League Baseball issued the following statement in response to media reports regarding Cleveland Indians pitcher Paul Byrd:

"We will investigate the allegations concerning Paul Byrd as we have players implicated in previous similar reports. Since Mr. Byrd and his club, the Cleveland Indians, are currently active in post-season play, we will interview Mr. Byrd prior to the start of the World Series should the Cleveland club advance."

16 October 2007 -- The surprising Colorado Rockies will play in Major League Baseball's World Series for the first time in their history, after completing a four-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Championship Series.

The Colorado Rockies scored six runs in the fourth inning Monday on the way to beating the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-4. Matt Holliday capped the big inning with a three-run home run.    » read more »

15 October 2007 -- Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies are one victory away from their first World Series appearance, after beating the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-1, Sunday.

The Colorado Rockies took a three-games-to-none lead in the best-of-seven National League Championship Series with the win. They hope to complete a sweep Monday on their home field in Denver.

13 October 2007 -- Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies posted a 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday to take a two-games-to-none lead in the best-of-seven National League Championship Series.

The visiting Colorado Rockies were leading 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Arizona Diamondback's Eric Byrnes drove in the trying run. But a base-running mistake by Stephen Drew on the play cost the Arizona Diamondbacks the potential winning run, sending the game into extra innings.    » read more »

Fans are encouraged to be in their seats 45 minutes prior to each game to enjoy all pregame festivities. Jacobs Field Gates will open two (2) hours prior to game time for all postseason games.

10/08/2007 -- The New York Yankees announced today that they have made an in-series injury substitution, adding LHP Ron Villone to the American League Division Series roster and removing RHP Roger Clemens.

Ron Villone, 37, was 0-0 with a 4.25 ERA (42.1IP, 20ER) in 37 appearances with the New York Yankees in 2007, following his recall from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 15. He owns two career postseason appearances, tossing a combined 1.2 scoreless innings (1H, 1BB, 1K).    » read more »
