Standing Room Only Tickets for Pittsburgh Pirates 2008 Home Opener Go on Sale Monday, March 31

03/28/2008 -- The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that Standing Room Only tickets for the 2008 Home Opener will go on sale on Monday, March 31. Beginning at 9 a.m. fans can purchase Standing Room Only tickets to the April 7 Home Opener online at pirates.com or in person at the PNC Park Main Box Office Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tom Gorzelanny is scheduled to take the mound for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Home Opener against the Chicago Cubs. The game is scheduled to start at 1:35 p.m.

03/26/2008, MESA, Ariz. -- The Chicago Cubs today announced that the club has granted infielder Alex Cintron his release.

Alex Cintron, 29, was signed by the Chicago Cubs as a minor league free agent February 18 of this season.

Chicago Cubs' active roster of 30 players consists of:
- 16 pitchers (including non-roster invitee Chad Fox),
- two catchers,
- seven infielders, and
- five outfielders.

MESA, Ariz., 03/25/2008 -- The Chicago Cubs today announced the club has agreed to terms with outfielder Reed Johnson on a one-year contract. Johnson, who will wear uniform number 13, is scheduled to be in the Cubs line-up for this afternoon's game against San Francisco in Scottsdale.

Additionally, the club today announced its fifth round of roster cuts.

Chicago Cubs Announce Second Round of Roster Cuts

03/11/2008, MESA, Ariz. -- The Chicago Cubs today announced their second round of roster cuts, reducing the roster from 49 to 42 players.

Right-handed pitcher Juan Mateo and outfielder Jake Fox have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa while right-handed pitcher Jeff Samardzija has been optioned to Double-A Tennessee.

Chicago Cub's spring roster of 49 players now consists of 25 pitchers (four non-roster invitees), four catchers (two non-roster invitees), 12 infielders (five non-roster invitees) and eight outfielders (one non-roster invitee).
