EPA Honors Recipients of 2008 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards

06/24/2008 -- For the 13th straight year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is recognizing chemical technologies developed by leading researchers and industrial innovators that are making significant contributions to pollution prevention in the United States. The awards will be given out this evening, June 24, at the awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards are given in five categories: Academic, Small Business, Greener Synthetic Pathways, Greener Reaction Conditions and Designing Greener Chemicals. The 2008 award-winner technologies are:

* A novel method to make complex molecules cleanly and efficiently developed by Professors Robert E. Maleczka, Jr. and Milton R. Smith, III of Michigan State University, Lansing, Mich.    » read more »

Going Live With Click Chemistry: Berkeley Researchers Create a Copper-free Version of the Technique

October 25, 2007 -- BERKELEY, CA — Click chemistry, one of the most exciting and proficient new techniques for labeling biomolecules in vitro, has now been extended to studies in the context of live cells as well. This breakthrough opens the door for applications to live cell imaging of numerous biomolecules, including glycans, proteins and lipids. The new version of click chemistry was developed by researchers with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and the University of California (UC) at Berkeley.    » read more »

American Chemical Society Calls Green Chemistry Bill a 'Smart Step'

WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 5, 2007 — The American Chemical Society (ACS) today praised House passage of legislation seeking to improve federal coordination, dissemination and investment in green chemistry research and development (R&D). The Green Chemistry Research and Development Act of 2007 (HR 2850) aims to provide safer, more sustainable technological options to replace traditional products and processes.    » read more »
