Liz Claiborne: US Fashion Designer Liz Claiborne Dies at 78

27 June 2007 -- U.S. fashion designer Liz Claiborne, who created career clothes for the surge of women entering the workforce in the 1970s, died Tuesday. She was 78.

An assistant for Claiborne said Wednesday the designer had cancer for a number of years. She died from complications of the disease at a hospital in New York.    » read more »

Paris Hilton: Socialite Paris Hilton Released From California Jail

26 June 2007 -- Hotel heiress and socialite Paris Hilton has been freed from jail after serving 23 days for defying a court order that had suspended her driver's license for drunken driving.

The celebrity left the Los Angeles County jail at about 15 minutes after midnight (0715 UTC) Tuesday, and walked through an enormous gauntlet of photographers and television cameras to a car, where her mother, Cathy Hilton, waited.

Tom Sizemore: Actor Tom Sizemore Sentenced to 16 Month in Jail for Violating Probation

26 June 2007 -- Tom Sizemore has been sentenced to 16 months in state prison for violating his probation in a previous drug case.

California Superior Court Judge Cynthia Rayvis said the 45-year-old actor "abused the privilege of probation" and "needs to be in a lockdown setting." She recommended Sizemore be sent to the R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego County for its noteworthy drug treatment program.

Sizemore, whose screen credits include Saving Private Ryan and Blackhawk Down, wore orange jail clothing and didn't speak during the June 25 hearing.    » read more »

Horror Movie Director Wes Craven Sues Neighbor, Comedian Pauly Shore

21 June 2007 -- It's a nightmare on his street: horror maven Wes Craven is suing his neighbor, comedian Pauly Shore, for damaging the director's property.

The 67-year-old Craven, famous for his Nightmare On Elm Street and Scream movies, claimed Shore caused a landslide on his Los Angeles-area property in December.

In documents filed June 20 in Los Angeles Superior Court, Craven accuses Shore of negligence and nuisance after improperly upgrading his home with a swimming pool, spa, landscaping, and other improvements.    » read more »

Julia Roberts: Actress Julia Roberts Welcomes Baby Boy

20 June 2007 -- Julia Roberts is a mother for the third time. The 39-year-old actress and her husband, 38-year-old cinematographer Danny Moder, welcomed Henry Daniel Moder June 18 in Los Angeles.

The couple, who were married in July 2002 at Roberts' home in Taos, N.M., also have two-year-old twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus.

Roberts, who won the 2001 Best Actress Academy Award for Erin Brockovich, will next be seen in the drama Charlie Wilson's War. Directed by Mike Nichols, it is scheduled to open December 25.

07 June 2007 -- Paris Hilton has left jail - but she's not free.

The 26-year-old celebrity hotel heiress left the Century Regional Detention Facility in Inglewood, California on June 7, after spending three nights in confinement.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said an unidentified medical condition prompted the reassignment.

Actor Tom Sizemore Arrested for Drug Possession

09 May 2007 -- Police arrested Tom Sizemore on May 8 for possession of methamphetamine.

The 45-year-old actor, on probation for a previous drug arrest, was taken into custody as he sat in a car outside the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Bakersfield, CA. Officers had responded to an early morning report that a man had challenged an employee to a fight while attempting to check in.

The man, Jason Salcido of Whittier, CA, is believed to be an associate of Sizemore's. He was found to be on parole and carrying what police described as a pipe for smoking narcotics.    » read more »

Paris Hilton's Lawyer Appeals Jail Sentence

08 May 2007 -- Paris Hilton's lawyers have filed a notice to appeal her 45-day jail sentence.

Filed May 8 with a Los Angeles court, the notice is required before a formal appeal can be lodged.

The 26-year-old socialite has been ordered to report to a county jail by June 5 for violating the terms of her probation resulting from an alcohol-related reckless driving arrest.

Speaking May 5 outside her home, Hilton said "I feel that I was treated unfairly and that the sentence is both cruel and unwarranted and I don't deserve this."

Actor David Hasselhoff Loses Visitation Rights with Daughters

08 May 2007 -- Actor David Hasselhoff has lost visitation rights with his two teengage daughters.

The move comes in the wake of a widely-distributed video which showed the 54-year-old actor intoxicated in his Las Vegas home.

Saying the tape "changed the landscape" of the case, Superior Court Judge Mark Juhas set a May 21 court date to determine the tape's authenticity. His visitation order will remain in place until then.    » read more »

OJ Simpson Ejected from Kentucky Restaurant

09 May 2007 -- O.J. Simpson was ejected from an upscale Louisville, Kentucky restaurant on May 4.

Speaking in a May 8 telephone interview, Jeff Ruby said he was sickened by the amount of attention the former football star still receives.

Ruby, who owns restraurants in Cincinatti, Louisville, and Belterra, Indiana, said Simpson entered his restaurant with a group of about 12 people, and was seated in the back. A customer approached Simpson and appeared "giddy" about seeing him.    » read more »
