July 11, 2007 -- COLUMBUS -- In an order issued on July 6th, Federal District Court Judge James G. Carr denied the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma’s motion to expand the scope of its lawsuit to add new claims and parties. This decision, along with Judge Carr’s earlier decision refusing to expressly approve the Eastern Shawnee’s privately-reached agreements with amenable landowners, makes clear that the agreements in question are private agreements between willing buyers and settlers, and not the settlement of valid legal claims to Ohio lands.    » read more »

Kansas Governor Sebelius Requests Creation Of Position To Oversee Gaming Expansion

Governor asks KRGC to appoint Robert Krehbiel to new post

July 3, 2007 -- With the goal being to ensure proper implementation of the gaming expansion approved by the Legislature this year, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius has requested that the new post of Chief Gaming Officer be created.

The request came in a letter to the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission. In that letter, Sebelius also requested that Robert Krehbiel, who currently serves on the Kansas Corporation Commission, be appointed to the new post.    » read more »

April 26, 2007 -- AUGUSTA – Maine Governor John Baldacci today vetoed L.D. 805, a bill that would have allowed the expansion of slot machine gambling into Washington County.
