California Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on DOE Awarding $65.6 Million for Carbon Capture and Storage Project

05/06/2008 -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded $65.6 million to support the California Energy Commission's West Coast Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (WESTCARB) research:

"California is a leader in the fight against global warming, and this money will help us in reaching our climate change goals. It also underscores the need for continued funding to research new technologies. Over a short period of time-just four years-this carbon capture and storage project has the potential to remove one million tons of carbon dioxide from our atmosphere. These are the kinds of innovative technologies that we need to win the battle against greenhouse gas emissions."    » read more »

Wyoming Governor Signs Landmark Carbon Sequestration Legislation

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Calling the state’s effort to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for carbon capture and sequestration “groundbreaking,” Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal today signed House Bill 89 and 90 (HEA 18 and 25) in a formal signing in the Capitol Rotunda.

“We have surveyed through both the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, as well as other sources, and it is clear that these two pieces of legislation are the most comprehensive, most thorough pieces passed by any legislature in the country,” Freudenthal said.    » read more »

Wyoming Governor To Sign Landmark Carbon Sequestration Legislation

CHEYENNE, Wyo.- Marking Wyoming’s groundbreaking effort as the first state to establish a regulatory framework for carbon capture and sequestration, Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal is expected to take action on House Bill 89 and 90 (HEA 18 and 25) in a formal signing at noon on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, in the Capitol Rotunda.

Earlier this year, Freudenthal told the Joint Judiciary Interim Committee that the Wyoming Legislature had an opportunity to lead the nation in regulating long-term carbon capture and sequestration.    » read more »

Wyoming Governor Says Wyoming Legislature Can Lead On Carbon Dioxide Legislation

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - The Wyoming Legislature has an opportunity to lead the nation in regulating long-term carbon capture and sequestration, Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal told the Joint Judiciary Interim Committee today.

The committee is considering legislation that would give the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality the authority to regulate the long-term storage of carbon dioxide. The ability to store that CO2 safely over the long term could be critical    » read more »
