Oregon Governor Meets with European Union Officials on Cap and Trade

Lessons learned will help shape cap and trade program in Oregon

March 31, 2008 -- (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) — Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski began his business development mission today with a meeting with APM Terminals executives in Amsterdam to advance the container terminal development project in Coos Bay, and then traveled to Brussels to meet with European Union (EU) officials and industry representatives to discuss carbon cap and trade.

“This meeting was a good opportunity to learn first hand the successes and challenges of the EU cap and trade program,” the Governor said today following the meeting. “These lessons learned will help us as we shape a better program for Oregon that works for industry and the citizens of our state.”    » read more »

Steelworkers Call for Trade Reform at Green Jobs Conference

March 13, 2008 -- PITTSBURGH, -- The United Steelworkers (USW) today called on its environmental allies to join the union in rallying support for domestic job growth through sweeping federal investments in renewable job growth and asked for their support in urging Congress to close a loophole in carbon "cap-and-trade" legislation that is currently under consideration because in its current form it fails to require any significant improvements in the carbon emissions created by countries such as China, Brazil and India.    » read more »

Senator Specter Announces EIA and EPA Analyses of Bingaman-Specter Greenhouse Gas Cap-and-Trade Legislation

January 15, 2008 - The Energy Information Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency have each recently released detailed analyses of the Bingaman-Specter greenhouse gas cap-and-trade legislation (S. 1766). The legislation would establish a mandatory emission trading program to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. The analyses, requested by Bingaman and Specter, reached similar conclusions about impacts the bill would have on greenhouse gas emissions, energy production, energy use and prices.    » read more »
