ARRA Highway Investment Hits $20 Billion

Recovery Putting People to Work on Investments with Long-Term Benefit

Nov. 3, 2009 -- WASHINGTON – The Federal Highway Administration crossed the $20 billion mark in approved obligations for highway, road and bridge projects this week, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced today. Of the $26.6 billion available for federal highway and bridge projects under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, more than 75 percent has now been obligated.

“Even though winter is right around the corner, highway and bridge projects are still getting underway, creating thousands of jobs and saving thousands more,” said Secretary LaHood. “The Recovery Act is helping repair America’s roads and bridges while putting people back to work.”    » read more »

Colorado Gov. Ritter's FY10-11 Transportation Budget Up 6%

Nov. 2, 2009 -- Colorado Governor Bill Ritter today submitted a $1.03 billion Fiscal Year 2010-11 transportation budget proposal to the legislature's Joint Budget Committee, a 6 percent increase from this year's $973.5 million.

Colorado's new FASTER law is fueling the much-needed increase, generating an estimated $160.6 million for the state's FY10-11 budget for bridge and roadway repair and safety work. An additional $61.1 million will go directly to local agencies from FASTER. Sponsored by Sen. Dan Gibbs and Rep. June 22, 2009 -- MADISON - Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle today announced a third round of bid openings for road and bridge projects in Wisconsin that will benefit from funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. New York Governor Paterson Announces Construction Start On First Onondaga County Stimulus Project

Bridge Replacement to Improve Safety in Onondaga County

June 1 , 2009 -- New York Governor David A. Paterson today announced the start of construction on a $7.7 million project to replace the bridge carrying Bartell Road over Interstate 81 in Onondaga County, the first American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) construction contract to begin in the Syracuse area. Crews will replace the existing bridge with a new structure and improve pedestrian and cyclist paths throughout the project area in Cicero.

New York Governor Paterson Announces $135 Million In Stimulus Funding For Transportation Projects Across The State

Total Economic Recovery Investment for Road and Bridge Projects in Region Reaches $43.3 Million

May 21, 2009 -- New York Governor David A. Paterson today announced the certification of an additional $135.3 million for highway and bridge improvements through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The funding will allow 48 new projects to move forward, creating an estimated 3,247 jobs across the State, according to the Federal Highway Administration.

PA Governor Rendell Says First Grants From Water Infrastructure Fund Awarded

May 14, 2009 -- HARRISBURG – The first grants to protect Pennsylvania’s flood prone communities and address unsafe, high-hazard dams under the historic H2O PA water-related infrastructure renewal program were approved today, Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell announced.

Seventeen dam projects and five flood control projects received a total of $57.4 million, Governor Rendell said.

“Pennsylvania’s water-related infrastructure—its drinking water and wastewater plants, dams and flood protection projects—are aging and deteriorating after decades of neglect and underinvestment,” Governor Rendell said. “This is creating a difficult challenge for communities that are facing costly, but much needed, upgrades to their water and wastewater systems.    » read more »

$29 Million in Federal Funds Will Help Repair 19 Red-List Bridges

May 15, 2009 -- CONCORD - New Hampshire Governor John Lynch and Transportation Commissioner George Campbell today announced that federal stimulus funds have made it possible for the state to pay for 35 municipal road and bridge projects across the state. The projects include 22 local bridges, 19 of which are red-listed bridges.

Washington Gov. Gregoire Signs Bill To Fund And Build SR 520 Floating Bridge Replacement

May 13, 2009 -- ABERDEEN – Washington Governor Chris Gregoire today signed Engrossed Substitute House Bill 2211, approving construction and funding for a new SR 520 floating bridge replacement which will open to drivers in 2014. The bill authorizes tolling on SR 520 beginning next year. The combination of toll revenue, previously authorized state gas taxes, and federal funds closes the funding gap and allows the new floating bridge to move forward.

“Supporting a new SR 520 bridge replacement will help ensure our regional economy stays strong,” said Gregoire. “The new bridge will get travelers safely to their jobs at the University of Washington, the global health center in Seattle’s South Lake Union, and the technology hub on the east side of the lake.”    » read more »
