Boston Red Sox Place Pitcher Mike Timlin on 15-Day Disabled List

LOS ANGELES, 03/28/2008 -- The Boston Red Sox tonight placed right-handed pitcher Mike Timlin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 20, with a laceration on his right ring finger.

The announcement was made by Boston Red Sox Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein.

Mike Timlin sustained the injury when he was hit by a ground ball on March 19 versus Toronto in Fort Myers, Fla. He had a 5.63 ERA in seven relief appearances this spring. The right-hander, who ranks 10th on the all-time list with 1,011 career appearances, was 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA in 50 games with the Red Sox in 2007.

With the move, the Boston Red Sox reached the overall Major League opening day roster limit of 25 players.

Los Angeles Dodgers Auctioning Game-Worn Jerseys from Coliseum Charity Game

Jerseys are available online with proceeds benefiting ThinkCure

LOS ANGELES, 03/27/2008 -- The Los Angeles Dodgers are auctioning game-worn Dodgers jerseys from the March 29 charity game against the Boston Red Sox at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Each jersey will be autographed by the player or coach who wore the jersey, and will include a special ThinkCure patch on one sleeve and a 50th Anniversary patch on the opposite sleeve.

Bidding is now underway online at dodgers.auction.mlb.com and will continue until 2 p.m. PDT on Thursday, April 10. Proceeds from this auction will also benefit ThinkCure, the official charity of the Los Angeles Dodgers.    » read more »

Boston Red Sox Set 2008 MLB Opening Day Roster

03/25/2008, TOKYO, JAPAN -- The Boston Red Sox today set their 2008 opening day roster with the following moves:

--Placed righthanded pitcher Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 19 with a lower back strain.

--Optioned catcher Dusty Brown to Triple-A Pawtucket of the International League.

--Purchased the contact of catcher Kevin Cash from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The three moves put the Red Sox' roster at 27 players, one under the allowable limit for the Ricoh Opening Series Japan 2008. Of that number, 25 players will be active for the two games in Japan versus the Oakland A's.

The two inactive players for this two-game series are righthanded pitchers Mike Timlin (cut on right ring finger), and Tim Wakefield (started Sunday's game versus Yomiuri).    » read more »

Boston Red Sox Surpass 2.3 Million Baseball Tickets Sold for 2008

01/28/2008, BOSTON -- Boston Red Sox fans have already purchased more than 2.3 million tickets for the 2008 season, a record-setting pace.

The club has sold 2,343,204 tickets through this past weekend, when tickets for most single games went on sale. That is a 2.9 percent increase through the same date last year, when fans had purchased 2,274,724 tickets, a difference of 68,480. At the same point in 2005 the number was 2,079,909 and in 2006, the figure stood at 2,135,353 following the first weekend of the on-sale.    » read more »

01/28/2008, CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have acquired right-handed pitchers Willy Mota and Miguel Socolovich from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for right-hander David Aardsma.

Willy Mota, 22, went 5-3 with a 2.60 ERA (8 ER/27.2 IP) and 22 strikeouts in 17 relief appearances with Advanced Rookie Lowell in 2007, his first season as a pitcher. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound native of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic limited opponents to a .225 (23-102) average and averaged 7.2 strikeouts per 9.0 IP.    » read more »
