Boeing Marks 6,000th 737 with Delivery to ILFC and Norwegian Air Shuttle
SEATTLE, April 16, 2009 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] today celebrated a special program milestone with the delivery of the 6,000th 737. It was delivered to International Lease Finance Corp (ILFC) which will lease the 737 to Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA. The airplane's tail features a special decal denoting this milestone.

Washington Gov. Gregoire Testifies On Behalf Of Aerospace Legislation
April 13, 2009 -- OLYMPIA – Washington Governor Chris Gregoire this morning testified before the state House Committee on Community and Economic Development and Trade, urging legislators to move forward with her proposed legislation to create a Washington Council on Aerospace.
“We spend a lot of time and energy working to recruit and retain companies in the state of Washington,” Gregoire said. “But now, we need to step up those efforts.”
Following the release of the Aerospace Industry Competitiveness study completed by Deloitte Consulting, Gregoire proposed HB 2308 to create the aerospace council. The council will bring together top officials from aerospace, labor, research universities and community colleges, legislators and cabinet members to achieve several goals. » read more »
Boeing CH-47F Chinook Helicopter Fielded by US Army's 82nd Airborne Division
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa., April 13, 2009 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] today announced that a fourth U.S. Army unit has fielded the CH-47F Chinook helicopter. Company B, 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB), 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, is based at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Boeing Successfully Test Laser Weapons System
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., March 24, 2009 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] has successfully demonstrated its Re-Deployable High-Energy Laser System (RHELS) by quickly relocating the prototype weapon system from its Albuquerque development site to a test range, where it tracked ground and airborne targets and fired at a ground target.
RHELS integrates a solid-state, thin-disk laser; an acquisition, pointing and tracking capability; beam control, fire control and thermal management systems; and a weapons operator console into a modified 40-foot-long shipping container transportable on a semitrailer. » read more »

Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Program Completes Infrared Search and Track System Tests
ST. LOUIS, March 11, 2009 -- The Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Infrared Search and Track (IRST) program has successfully completed a series of risk-reduction flight tests that demonstrated the compatibility and effectiveness of the IRST system on the Super Hornet strike fighter.
IRST is a passive, long-range sensor system that searches for and detects IR emissions within its field of view. Boeing, Mexicana Group Agree to 25-Airplane 717 Leasing Deal
SEATTLE, March 09, 2009 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Mexicana Group today announced a lease agreement for 25 Boeing 717-200 airplanes to be used by Mexicana's Click operation.
Under a multi-year arrangement, MexicanaClick will begin receiving the 717s from Boeing Capital Corporation in March, making Mexicana the first North American 717 operator outside the U.S. Boeing Capital is the world's largest lease provider of the modern, fuel-efficient twin jet.
In addition to the airplanes, Boeing through its Commercial Aviation Services group will provide training for flight crew, cabin crew and maintenance staff as well as spare parts provisioning. NASA Awards Rotorcraft Technology Development Contract
Feb. 25, 2009 -- WASHINGTON -- NASA has selected three companies to receive a subsonic rotary wing technology development contract valued at $40 million. The companies sharing the award are Bell Helicopter Textron Inc. of Hurst, Texas; The Boeing Company of Chicago; and Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. of Stratford, Conn.
This is a cost plus fixed fee, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract with a five-year period of performance beginning Feb. 25, 2009.
The work will be performed for NASA's Subsonic Rotary Wing Project, which the Fundamental Aeronautics Program of NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate in Washington funds and manages. » read more »
68 Killed in Kyrgyzstan Plane Crash
24 August 2008 -- Kyrgyz officials say a passenger plane has crashed shortly after taking off from the capital, Bishkek, killing 68 people on board.
The Boeing-737 jet was headed to Iran's capital, Tehran, with 90 passengers and crew on board. About 10 minutes after takeoff Sunday, it crashed in a field near Bishkek's airport and burst info flames. Officials say only 22 people survived.
Kyrgyz Prime Minister Igor Chudinov says the plane suffered a sudden loss of cabin pressure, forcing the pilot to attempt an emergency landing.
Government spokeswoman Rosa Daudova says the plane was carrying 24 Kyrgyz citizens, 52 Iranians, three Kazakhs, two Canadians, one Chinese and one Turkish national. » read more »

Boeing Installs Engines on Navy's 1st P-8A Poseidon
ST. LOUIS, July 01, 2008 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] installed two CFM56-7B engines on the U.S. Navy's first P-8A Poseidon June 21 in Renton, Wash. The on-schedule assembly closely follows the aircraft's wing-to-body join and "power on" milestones. Following final functional checks, the Boeing-led Poseidon industry team will conduct initial engine runs. Boeing will deliver the first test aircraft to the Navy in 2009.
