Texas Rangers Announce 2008 MLB Opening Day Roster
03/30/2008, SEATTLE -- The Texas Rangers announced several roster moves today in finalizing the club's 2008 MLB Opening Day 25-man roster. The Texas Rangers have made the following moves:
• Designated outfielder Nelson Cruz and right-handed pitcher Robinson Tejeda for assignment
• Selected the contracts of right-handed pitcher Franklyn German, Adam Melhuse, and Jamey Wright from Triple-A Oklahoma
• Optioned right-handed pitcher Wes Littleton to Triple-A Oklahoma
• Placed right-handed pitcher Brandon McCarthy on the 60-day disabled list...he can be reinstated on May 29.
• Placed right-handed pitcher Luis Mendoza (retroactive to March 24) and infielder Travis Metcalf (retroactive to March 21) on 15-day disabled list. » read more »

Baltimore Orioles Release Jay Gibbons
03/30/2008 -- The Baltimore Orioles today announced that they have released OF JAY GIBBONS. Selected from the Toronto Blue Jays in the Rule 5 Draft on December 11, 2000, Jay Gibbons hit .260 with 121 home runs and 405 RBIs in 779 games over seven seasons for the Baltimore Orioles.
Jay Gibbons hit .230 with 6 home runs and 28 RBI in 84 games last season before undergoing surgery on his left shoulder on August 14 and missing the remainder of the year. It was the 4th time in seven seasons injuries prevented him from appearing in 100 games. » read more »
Baltimore Orioles Place Six Players on 15-Day Disabled List
Tike Redman accepts assignment to Triple-A Norfolk
03/29/2008 -- The Baltimore Orioles today announced that they have placed six players on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21.
IF/OF Freddie Bynum was placed on the list due to right knee surgery, LHP Troy Patton due to left shoulder surgery, RHPs Danys Baez, Fernando Cabrera and Chris Ray due to right elbow surgery, and RHP Jim Hoey due to right shoulder inflammation.
All are eligible for reinstatement on April 5.
The Baltimore Orioles also announced today that OF Tike Redman has accepted his assignment to Triple-A Norfolk. Redman was outrighted yesterday.

Baltimore Orioles Place Pitcher Rocky Cherry on 15-Day Disabled List
03/28/2008 -- The Baltimore Orioles today announced that they have placed RHP Rocky Cherry on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a right shoulder strain.
Rocky Cherry has appeared in eight Spring Training games, pitching to a 0.90 ERA (10.0IP, 1ER) and striking out 10.
Rocky Cherry, 27, was acquired on Aug. 31, 2007 with INF Scott Moore from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for RHP Steve Trachsel. He was 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 12 games with the Chicago Cubs and pitched to a 7.71 ERA in 10 games with the Baltimore Orioles.

MLB, MLBPA to Stay Discipline of Jose Guillen, Jay Gibbons
03/28/2008 -- Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) have agreed to stay the discipline of Jose Guillen of the Kansas City Royals and Jay Gibbons of the Baltimore Orioles for 10 days to allow for further negotiations over revisions to the Joint Drug Agreement.

Baltimore Orioles Announce 2008 MLB Opening Day Plans
03/26/2008 -- The Baltimore Orioles have announced plans for the first game of their 55th season. The team will face the Tampa Bay Rays next Monday, March 31, at 3:05 p.m.
PRE-GAME FUN AROUND THE YARD
To allow fans the opportunity to experience the excitement of Opening Day, the entire ballpark will open at noon. Each fan will receive a 2008 Orioles magnet schedule at the gates, and roving musical groups will entertain fans on Eutaw Street and the main concourses.
PRE-GAME CEREMONIES
Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 2:30 p.m., when pre-game ceremonies will begin. The new ballpark entertainment system will be unveiled as part of the festivities. The team will also pay tribute to members of the Orioles family who passed away during the last year.

01/28/2008 -- The Baltimore Orioles today announced that four players -- RHP RANDOR BIERD, RHP ROCKY CHERRY, RHP FREDDY DEZA and RHP RADHAMES LIZ -- have agreed to terms on one-year contracts for the 2008 season.
Bierd, selected from Detroit in the Rule 5 draft in December, combined to go 4-3 with a 2.93 ERA in 42 games between Class A West Michigan and AA Erie last season.
Cherry, acquired from the Chicago Cubs on August 31 in the Steve Trachsel trade, combined to go 1-1 with a 5.46 ERA in 22 games between the Cubs and Orioles after beginning the season with AAA Iowa. » read more »

Five players agree to terms on 2008 contracts
01/22/2008 -- The Baltimore Orioles today announced that they have signed RHP Lance Cormier to a Minor League contract with an invitation to their Major League spring training camp.
Lance Cormier, 27, began last season on the disabled list before splitting time between Atlanta and AAA Richmond. He went 2-6 with a 7.09 ERA in 10 games with the Braves and 4-2 with a 3.46 ERA in 10 starts for Richmond. He made 9 starts for Atlanta. » read more »
