Automakers Praise "Cash For Clunkers” Passage in Senate
June 18, 2009 -- Washington, D.C. - The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (Alliance) praised the Senate for passage of the fleet modernization, or "Cash for Clunkers" legislation. The proposal will now go to President Obama where it is expected to be signed into law. The Department of Transportation has already started working on the program’s implementation and will be announcing more information soon. » read more »
General Motors on Pontiac Vibe Production Discontinuation at NUMMI

2009-06-18 -- As part of its long-term viability plan and recent decision to phase out the Pontiac brand, General Motors has decided to discontinue production of the Pontiac Vibe by the end of August 2009.
The Vibe is produced at the New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated (NUMMI) facility jointly operated by GM and Toyota in Fremont, California.
While no replacement for Vibe production has been determined, GM and Toyota remain in active discussions regarding potential future production at NUMMI.

Senators want automakers to give car dealers adequate time and fair compensation in closing down
June 12, 2009 -- WASHINGTON, D.C. - Florida U.S. Senator Bill Nelson wants bailed-out automakers GM and Chrysler to compensate car dealers who have been told to close.
Nelson, joined by Sen. Bob Corker, of Tennessee, has filed legislation to require the two automakers to reimburse the dealers for inventory and parts they bought since last fall. They introduced the bill yesterday. » read more »
Senator Merkley: Chrysler to Buy Back Cars From Dealers Forced to Close
June 16, 2009 -- Washington, DC – Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley announced today that Chrysler has revised its strategy for compensating dealers that are losing their franchises. Last week, Merkley sent a letter to Chrysler and GM taking issue with the lack of assistance.
In the letter to Fritz Henderson, CEO of General Motors, and James Press, President of Chrysler, Merkley expressed his belief that the market should determine whether or not a dealership closes. Merkley requested that, if these two companies insist on terminating contracts, the dealerships be compensated to minimize harm to businesses and communities. » read more »

Customer Demand Drives Up Ford's European Sales Share In May For Fifth Successive Month
COLOGNE, June 15, 2009 – Driven by enthusiastic customer demand for its strongest-ever range of vehicles, Ford saw its sales market share increase for the fifth successive month in May across its main 19 markets.
Continued economic uncertainty and lower overall volume, combined with political and industry upheaval in some of the company's major markets has not deterred car buyers from choosing Ford's newest models, the Fiesta and Ka, thereby helping to increase the company's market share to 8.9 per cent in May, up 0.2 percentage points.

Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), and Tom Carper (D-Del.) today formally introduced legislation to establish a “Cash for Clunkers” program that incentivizes the purchase of more fuel efficient vehicles and would achieve at least 32 percent more oil savings than a House version of the bill. Ford Supplies Avis Fleet For BAE Systems
BRENTWOOD, Essex, June 8, 2009 – Ford has supplied more than 1,600 vehicles to Avis as part of an innovative new daily rental service Avis is providing for BAE Systems.
Ford delivered more than 1,600 Ford Focus models to the rental fleet as well as a number of Ford Fiesta and Ford Mondeo vehicles. Avis is managing the operation through five BAE locations and three newly opened rental stations in Southampton, Leicester and Barrow-in-Furness.
