May 8, 2008 -- For the first time, ESPN, Inc., will present exclusive live coverage of the UEFA European Football Championship 2008 Saturday, June 7, through Sunday, June 29, from eight cities in Austria and Switzerland.
ESPN2, ESPN, ESPN Classic and ABC will combine to present all 31 matches live – five on ESPN Classic, 17 on ESPN2 and seven on ESPN. ABC will broadcast two matches – a quarterfinal contest on June 21 and the Euro 2008 title match Sunday, June 29 at 2:30 p.m. ET from the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna, Austria. » read more »
FBI Identifies Fifth Body Recovered in Iraq
March 29, 2008 -- On Friday, March 28, the FBI identified the fifth body recovered by U.S. authorities in Iraq as Bert Nussbaumer of Austria.
Nussbaumer was employed by Crescent Security Group (CSG) at the time of his kidnapping on November 16, 2006.
The FBI has previously identified the remains of four Americans: Ronald J. Withrow of JPI Worldwide, and John Roy Young, Paul Christopher Johnson-Reuben, and Joshua Mark Munns of CSG.
The FBI’s Office of Victim Assistance has been in contact with the victims’ families since the men were kidnapped. The families were immediately notified once positive identification was made. » read more »
Four Cities Apply to Host the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012
7 March 2008 -- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that four cities have been put forward by their respective National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to apply to host the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012. The Candidate Cities, in alphabetical order, are: Harbin (China), Innsbruck (Austria), Kuopio (Finland), and Lillehammer (Norway).
The NOCs had until 6 March 2008, midnight, to notify the IOC that a city within their jurisdiction was interested in applying. » read more »

US Rejects Austria's Criticism of Missile Defense Plan
23 August 2007 -- The State Department Thursday rejected comments by Austria's defense minister that the U.S. missile defense system planned for central Europe is unnecessary and amounts to a Cold War-style provocation. U.S. officials say the system, to be based in Poland and the Czech Republic, is intended to counter a potential missile threat from Iran.
The State Department is vigorously defending the anti-missile plan in the face of comments by Austrian Defense Minister Norbert Darabos that the program makes no sense, and will only re-ignite Cold War debates in Europe. » read more »
