MLB: Glavine Posts 300th Win
06 August 2007 -- New York Mets pitcher Tom Glavine has won his 300th game - the 23rd pitcher in Major League Baseball history to reach that milestone.
The 41-year-old Glavine left the game against the Cubs in Chicago late Sunday in the seventh inning with a five-run lead, and with the appreciative applause of Cubs fans. The Mets went on to win, 8-3.
Glavine - in his 21st major league season - becomes just the fifth left-handed pitcher to win 300 games. » read more »

15 July 2007 -- In Major League Baseball, Atlanta's Jeff Francoeur hit a bases-loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Braves a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In another National League contest Saturday, Milwaukee pinch-hitter Tony Graffanino singled in the game-ending run in the 10th inning, giving the Brewers a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies. » read more »
MLB: Detroit Tigers Shut Out Atlanta Braves
25 June 2007 -- Major League Baseball's defending American League champion Detroit Tigers have won their seventh straight game, shutting down the Atlanta Braves, 5-0.
Detroit's rookie pitcher Andrew Miller threw six sharp innings Sunday, handing the Braves their fourth shutout in their past five games.
The Tigers finished interleague play Sunday with a 14-4 record against National League teams, tying the Los Angeles Angels for the best mark in the majors.
The Angels beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-3, in 10 innings. Erick Aybar drove in the game-ending run. » read more »
MLB: Boston, Atlanta Split Lopsided Wins in Doubleheader
20 May 2007 -- The Washington Nationals' new baseball field (artist's rendering)The Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves have traded lopsided victories in a Major League Baseball doubleheader.
In the first game Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka earned his sixth win of the season - a 13-3 victory for host Boston. He was helped by four Boston home runs.
Atlanta pitcher John Smoltz then tossed seven shutout innings in the second game, as the Braves routed Boston, 14-0, handing the Red Sox their worst shutout in 17 years.

05/01/2007 4:41 PM ET -- Major League Baseball has given $50,000 to Bluffton (OH) University as part of the school's effort to honor its 2007 baseball team.
The contribution will go toward a permanent memorial and other refurbishments at the newly named "Bluffton University Memorial Field," which will honor the 2007 team and those who lost their lives in the March 2nd bus accident that occurred as they were traveling to a game. » read more »

DENVER, Colo., 04/26/2007 8:02 PM ET -- The Atlanta Braves announced today that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher John Smoltz on a contract extension for 2008, with options for 2009 and 2010. The deal, which includes a guaranteed contract for the 2008 season, with a vesting option for 2009 and a club option for 2010, virtually guarantees that the 39-year-old Smoltz will play his entire Major League career in a Braves uniform. Split doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday, June 5 with early game featuring "Kids Day Special"
04/19/2007 11:47 AM ET -- The Atlanta Braves/Florida Marlins game that was postponed Saturday, April 14 due to inclement weather has been rescheduled as part of a split doubleheader on Tuesday, June 5 at 2:35 p.m.
The "Kids Day Special" game will feature a ticket price of $3 for children 14 and under on selected seats, a pre-game parade for kids around the field and other activities for children. The Turner Field gates will open at noon. » read more »
