Commission on Culture & Tourism Connects Emerging Arts Leaders during Creative Conversations

Conversations Take Place Throughout October, National Arts and Humanities Month

HARTFORD, Conn. (September 28, 2007) – The Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism (CCT) has partnered with Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading non-profit organization for arts advocacy, to host a series of Emerging Leader Creative Conversations. These conversations take place throughout Connecticut between October 2 and 16.

Iowa Arts Council Announces Mini Grant Awards

September 25, 2007, DES MOINES, Iowa –The Iowa Arts Council has awarded $8,625 in Mini Grants to organizations and individuals in Des Moines, Greenfield, Pella and Iowa City. IAC received 18 eligible applications with requests totaling more than $25,000.

The Iowa Arts Council works to enrich the quality of life and learning in Iowa communities by encouraging excellence in the arts through leadership, grants and technical assistance.

Mini Grants are awarded each month, and applicants may request up to $1,500 in funding, which they must match.    » read more »

New York City Opera Remembers Beverly Sills on October 27

Vandals in Paris Museum Damage Monet Masterpiece

07 October 2007 -- Vandals have broken into a Paris art museum during a street festival and severely damaged a classic by French impressionist Claude Monet.

Officials with the Orsay Museum said Sunday the vandals entered a back door and punched a fist through the 19th century masterpiece The Bridge at Argenteuil, leaving a 10 centimeter gash in the canvas. The intruders fled when they set off an alarm.

Museum officials call the damage heartbreaking, but say the painting can be repaired.    » read more »

New York Governor Spitzer And Lt. Gov. Paterson Break Ground On New Facility For The Museum For African Art

State Proposes $12 Million for the Project

September 24, 2007 -- New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and Lieutenant Governor David A. Paterson today joined Congressman Charles Rangel and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer to break ground at the site of a new permanent facility for the Museum for African Art. The Governor announced today that he is proposing $12 million in funding for the building of the new museum facility over the next three years. 17 September 2007, Washington (By Mary Morningstar) -- The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced its 2007 Honorees. They are pianist Leon Fleisher, singer Diana Ross, the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, director Martin Scorsese and actor Steve Martin.

Kennedy Center Chairman Stephen A. Schwarzman released a statement that said, "With their extraordinary talent, creativity, and perseverance, the five 2007 Honorees have transformed the way we, as Americans, see, hear, and feel the performing arts.
