October 18, 2007 -- (MONTGOMERY)— The State of Alabama on Tuesday updated its complaint in the long-running federal court dispute with the Corps of Engineers over water releases from federal reservoirs in the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa River Basin. October 16, 2007 -- Jefferson City, Mo. — Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon today asked the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to suspend plans for a spring rise in 2008 on the Missouri River. At least 40 levees on the river in Missouri still need to be repaired from the flooding last May, Nixon said, and if the Corps follows through on its plan for the spring rise called for by the draft Annual Operating Plan, it could represent a danger to the lives and livelihoods of Missouri citizens. » read more »
US Army Corps Of Engineers Opens Kentucky Reservoirs To Water Withdrawal
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 24, 2007) -- The Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet (EPPC) today announced the Louisville and Huntington (W. Va.) districts of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will issue permits for the temporary withdrawal of water from 13 USACE-operated reservoirs in Kentucky.
The permits allow withdrawal for uses other than crop irrigation and landscape watering.
The permits will remain valid until the drought conditions subside or until Aug. 29, 2008. » read more »
