Senators Levin, Stabenow Hail $1.4 Million for Sawyer International Airport
May 29, 2009 -- WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senators Carl Levin (D-MI) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $1,425,000 to Sawyer International Airport in Marquette County. The funding will be used for lighting and insulation in hangars #400, 423, and 425.
“This federal funding will help Sawyer meet the needs of travelers in a safe and efficient way,” said Levin. “As we approach Sawyer’s 10th year serving the people of the Upper Peninsula, I am hopeful that this grant will help this important hub continue to grow and improve.” » read more »
Senators Schumer and Gillibrand Announce Over $1.1 Million For Plattsburgh International Airport
May 29, 2009 -- U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded two grants totaling $1,140,000 to Plattsburgh International Airport for infrastructure improvements and safety enhancements. A $950,000 grant will be used to upgrade nose doc hangars and a grant of $190,000 will be used to perform terminal expansion and security improvements. » read more »
Senators Cochran and Wicker Announce $4.7 Million for Mississippi Airports
May 26, 2009 -- WASHINGTON – Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has released $4,778,461 in funding for airports across the state of Mississippi. Funding for the grants, administered by the Federal Aviation Administration, was provided through the Fiscal Year 2009 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies appropriations bill.
“These federal dollars will improve transportation infrastructure by providing greater efficiency, security, and safety at our local airports,” Sen. Wicker said. “In the process, this investment will help Mississippi remain economically competitive in the future.”

Senator Schumer Secures Pledge From Continental Airlines
Airline Will Maintain Service Between Ithaca Tompkins And Newark; Service Provides Region With Critical Access To Domestic And International Flights
May 26, 2009 -- United States Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that Continental Airlines has withdrawn their plan to end their daily round-trip flights between Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport and their New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The service is operated by CommutAir as Continental Connection. The change comes after Schumer wrote and called Continental Airlines CEO Larry Kellner, urging him to reverse his decision, and after unprecedented lobbying on the part of community members and the Tompkins County business community. » read more »
Lincoln, Pryor, Berry Announce $2 Million for Delta Regional Airport
May 26, 2009 -- Washington – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced that Delta Regional Airport in St. Francis County will receive a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to construct a new airport, including completing grading and drainage needs, installing perimeter fencing, and completing paving.

Recovery Act Awards Additional $2.5 Million for Runway Improvements, Rescue Equipment at Michigan Airports
May 20, 2009 -- LANSING - Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm has announced that two additional Michigan airports, Sawyer International Airport in Marquette and Muskegon County Airport, have been awarded a total of $2.5 million dollars in Recovery Act funds for projects to enhance safety and upgrade facilities.
Muskegon County Airport will receive $800,000 to purchase new aircraft rescue and firefighting equipment, replacing aging and inoperable vehicles currently in their fleet. Sawyer International Airport will receive $1.7 million for construction of an airfield lighting vault, replacing a 50-year-old structure on the former Air Force base. » read more »
Rhode Island Airport Corporation is Awarded Federal Stimulus Money
Funds for Improvement Projects at Newport and Quonset Airports Total $6.2 Million
April 16, 2009 -- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today announced the award of $6.2 Million to the Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) for two important construction projects at the state’s general aviation airports. Monies for the airport stimulus package total $1.1 billion overall, with $53 million of that being allocated to the New England Region.
Funds awarded for reconstruction, marking and lighting of Taxiway A at Quonset Airport total $3.5 million. $2.7 million was awarded for work at Newport Airport, which entails reconstruction, marking and lighting of Runway 16-34.
