PARIS, June 8 -- When American Airlines Flight 63 departs Paris for Miami at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday, June 11, it will embark upon a journey that aims to prove that trans-Atlantic flights can be operated a bit greener and leaner.

Through the Atlantic Interoperability Initiative to Reduce Emissions (AIRE), American will be the first U.S. airline to test next-generation technology and procedures that will significantly reduce carbon emissions and save fuel on trans-Atlantic routes. The testing will be conducted during a normally scheduled flight so American can obtain real-time benefits.    » read more »

ATLANTA, June 4 -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today reported traffic results for May 2009. System traffic in May 2009, including both Delta and Northwest operations, decreased 9.7 percent compared to May 2008 on a 7.9 percent decrease in capacity, and load factor declined 1.6 points to 82.3 percent.

Domestic traffic decreased 6.5 percent year over year on a 6.0 percent decrease in capacity. Domestic load factor declined 0.4 points to 84.1 percent. International traffic decreased 14.6 percent year over year on a 10.7 percent decrease in capacity, and load factor declined 3.7 points to 79.4 percent.

Program Includes 'Just Culture' Provisions to Enhance Analysis of Root Causes of Events and Possible Mishaps Rather than Only Reported Incidents

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 4 -- American Airlines, in conjunction with the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU), today announced the renewal by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), of the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) for American's mechanics.

American and TWU have had a program in place for 11 years and with the FAA approved renewal of the program, ASAP will be extended for two more years. The TWU/American Airlines ASAP maintenance program is the longest running in U.S. commercial aviation.    » read more »

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 4 -- American Airlines today announced the reinstatement by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of an Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) for American's pilots.

American and the Allied Pilots Association (APA), the union representing all AA pilots, reached an agreement in March that was approved by the FAA and became effective on May 29, reinstating the pilots' program that had lapsed last fall after 14 years.

ASAP is a safety partnership organized by American, the union, and the FAA, designed to encourage employees to voluntarily report safety-related information. The reports help identify potential precursors to serious safety incidents.    » read more »

For Use With Mobile Phones or PDAs; New Airports Include Las Vegas, Atlanta and Minneapolis-St. Paul

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 4 -- American Airlines customers departing from Las Vegas McCarran International (LAS), Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) and Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP) can now choose to receive boarding passes electronically on their mobile phones or PDAs - saving the time it takes to print out and present a paper boarding pass at the airport.

As of today passengers departing on domestic flights from these three new airports can choose to use mobile boarding passes, including flights that connect through any of the participating airports.    » read more »

Intros Legislation To Mandate Safety Expert Be Included On FAA Advisory Board

Today, in an effort to ensure that safety is prioritized over all other industry concerns, US Senator Charles E. Schumer announced he will be introducing legislation to add a member to the Federal Aviation Administration Administrator’s Management Advisory Council (MAC) who represents that aviation safety sector.

The current Council consists of a Transportation Secretary designee, a Defense Secretary designee, and ten aviation industry representatives, none of whom come from the aviation safety sector. Examples of aviation safety organizations include the National Air Disaster Alliance/Foundation or the Flight Safety Foundation.    » read more »

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 3, 2009 -- American Airlines reported a May load factor of 79.2 percent, a decrease of 2.6 points versus the same period last year.

Traffic decreased 11.7 percent and capacity decreased 8.8 percent year over year.

Domestic traffic decreased 13.3 percent year over year on 12.4 percent less capacity.

International traffic decreased by 8.9 percent relative to last year on a capacity decrease of 2.7 percent.

American boarded 7.2 million passengers in May.

Traffic decreased 14.3 percent year over year as capacity decreased 14.5 percent.

Mainline revenue passenger miles (RPMs) for the month were 5.1 billion, down 5.2 percent versus May 2008. Capacity was 6.2 billion available seat miles (ASMs), down 5.8 percent versus May 2008. CHICAGO, June 3, 2009 – United Airlines today reported its preliminary consolidated traffic results for May 2009.

The company reported a May consolidated passenger load factor of 80.0 percent.

Total consolidated revenue passenger miles (RPMs) decreased in May by 12.3 percent on a consolidated capacity decrease of 10.2 percent in available seat miles (ASMs) compared with the same period in 2008.
