Wisconsin Governor Doyle Announces $30 Million Investment in Public Safety
Waukesha Receiving $141,000 to Increase Technology, Improve Community Safety
April 09, 2009 -- WAUKESHA – Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle today announced a $30 million investment of Recovery Act funds to protect public safety, avoid cuts to police service and reduce future corrections costs. Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds will be used to target youthful offenders, fight drug abuse and trafficking, and reduce the number of offenders entering the corrections system. Governor Doyle also announced that Waukesha County will use $140,708 of Recovery Act funding to purchase equipment critical to officer and community safety. » read more »

Wisconsin Governor Doyle Announces $1.8 Million in Additional Assistance to Laid Off Workers

March 13, 2009 -- MILWAUKEE – Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle today announced that Wisconsin will weatherize twice as many low income homes next year than it was able to this winter, thanks to $197 million in weatherization and energy funding from the President’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

New Coal Plants Would Create Nearly 18 Million Tons of Waste Annually
New Analysis Ranks "Filthy 15" States by Coal Ash Produced by Proposed Plants
Washington, D.C. (March 12, 2009) -- Proposed coal plants across the United States would produce nearly 18 million tons of dangerous waste, including toxic metals, each year. Nearly 130 million tons of coal waste from existing plants is being produced annually, most of which is disposed of in largely unregulated landfills, ponds and other locations, posing serious public health and environmental risks.
According to a new analysis by the Natural Resources Defense Council, the 15 states that would be the biggest polluters -- the “Filthy 15” -- have proposals for 54 coal plants and would create nearly 14 million tons of dangerous waste. » read more »

Wisconsin Governor Doyle Reports Record Export Growth
March 10, 2009 -- MADISON – Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle announced today that Wisconsin’s exports increased by 9.2 percent to a $20.6 billion in 2008. Wisconsin now ranks as the 18th-largest exporting state, compared to its 21st largest rank in 2006. Since Governor Doyle took office, exports have increased by 92 percent.
