Rhode Island Governor Praises Coast Guard’s Decision To Reject Weaver’s Cove LNG Transit Plan

Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri today praised a decision by the U.S. Coast Guard to recommend against a proposal by Weaver’s Cove to transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) through portions of Narragansett Bay to its proposed new marine terminal in Fall River. The Coast Guard determined that the waterways in Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not suitable for the transit of LNG vessels.

The Coast Guard ruling follows a similar decision in August by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.    » read more »

State Applied for Federal Money in August

Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri today hailed the federal Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) approval of the state's application for $5,732,027 to fund the expansion of Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.

According to the VA and the Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS), which operates the cemetery, the grant will pay for the development of an additional burial section, including 2,300 full-casket burial sites, 600 in-ground cremation sites and 624 columbarium niches for cremation remains.    » read more »
