Oklahoma Governor Henry Declares Statewide Burn Ban

January 29, 2008 -- Oklahoma City -- Citing high winds, dry conditions and a series of recent wildfires, Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry today declared a statewide burn ban for Oklahoma.

The governor’s office announced the decision Tuesday afternoon after reviewing weather data and discussing fire conditions with forestry officials in the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture.

Oklahoma Student Wins National Radon Poster Contest

Dallas, Texas, January 15, 2008 -- A student from Guthrie Junior High School has earned national recognition for her efforts to raise awareness about radon. Jill Bisig and her “Wanted: Radon” poster won third place out of nearly 2,000 entries in the 2008 National Radon Poster Contest.

January 15, 2008 -- Oklahoma City -- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry said today he is deeply disappointed and frustrated that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied Oklahoma’s request for individual assistance for people hit hard by last month’s deadly ice storm.

The Governor said the state will appeal the decision.

State of Oklahoma Files Notice to Forfeit Horse Track Property

01/15/2008 -- The state of Oklahoma today filed a Notice of Seizure and Intended Forfeiture in Love County District Court to begin the process of forfeiting 96.8 acres used in the operation of an illegal Oklahoma horse racing operation, Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson said today.

Officers from several Oklahoma law enforcement agencies raided the track, called Red River Playground, in July. The was site used for illegal horse racing and other gambling operations including dice and card games, prosecutors allege.    » read more »

January 09, 2008 -- Oklahoma City -- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry has asked federal authorities to provide individual assistance to Oklahomans impacted by December’s catastrophic ice storm. While the initial request is for Oklahoma and Tulsa counties, more counties will be added to the request if individual assistance is approved.

01/09/2008 -- A group of Internet pill peddlers may soon be forced to change their ways after Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson today filed a petition for a permanent injunction against the company in Oklahoma County District Court.

Pure Energy Labs, Inc. and three of the company’s executives, Darrin Clanton, Brian Forrester and Chris Wilson, were named in the state’s complaint after the attorney general’s office received more than 115 complaints from consumers regarding the company’s business practices.    » read more »

12-19-2007 -- The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) today made it easier to report uninsured property damage caused by last week's Ice Storm. Individuals and business owners may now report their damage via the OEM Web site.
