FEMA urges North Dakotans to be prepared

February 17, 2009 -- Mitigation experts have several recommendations to help people get ready for flood waters.

First and foremost on the list is to get flood insurance. In North Dakota, the average cost of flood insurance is about $620 a year. Since 1978, state residents have collected almost $134 million in insurance reimbursements.

It’s the first thing to do because there is a 30-day waiting period before a policy can take effect. If the waters are rising, it may be too late to file a flood insurance claim.

Obama picks up 20 endorsements this week from ND legislators, 10 in each chamber

February 02, 2008 -- Bismarck, ND - The Obama campaign announced today that a majority of Democrats from both houses of the North Dakota legislature have endorsed Barack Obama. This announcement comes just days before the February 5 Caucus in North Dakota.

The new endorsements came overwhelmingly from legislators who had previously supported Senator Edwards. A majority of Edwards' supporters who serve in the legislature are now supporting Barack Obama.    » read more »

11/1/2007 -- (HELENA) - Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer today said he is pleased with the announcement this week by Enbridge Energy Partners that the company will proceed with its second expansion of its North Dakota Pipeline System.

Governor Schweitzer met with Enbridge on Tuesday in Calgary and discussed the need for pipeline expansion with them. Montana is one of only two states in the nation to increase oil production in the last year.    » read more »

May 24, 2007 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Staff Sgt. David C. Kuehl, 27, of Wahpeton, N.D., died May 22 in Taji, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit.

He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.
