State Economic Recovery Office announced

February 19, 2009 -- LANSING - Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today said that the state is moving quickly to use funding provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed into law by President Barack Obama on Tuesday to create jobs and invest in the state's economy. Though complete details of the federal plan's impact on Michigan may not be known for several weeks, the governor indicated that in many instances, the dollars will flow to the state under existing formulas that determine how much funding is available and the type of projects that qualify.    » read more »

Michigan Governor Granholm's 2010 Executive Budget Addresses Structural Deficit, Protects Families

February 12, 2009 -- LANSING - Michigan State Budget Director Robert Emerson today presented Governor Jennifer M. Granholm's 2010 executive budget recommendation to a joint session of the Senate and House Appropriations Committees. The governor's budget is a combination of spending cuts and government reforms necessary to address both the on-going structural deficit in Michigan's budget and the cyclical challenges caused by the national recession.

Granholm: New Michigan Film Projects to Create Nearly 6,000 Jobs

February 3, 2009 -- LANSING - Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced Michigan's aggressive film production attraction efforts will create 5,993 new jobs in Michigan, including 4066 new film, animation and programming jobs. Three companies, Wonderstruck Studios, Motown Motion Pictures and Stardock Systems, plan to invest more than $156 million in Detroit, Pontiac and Plymouth locations.

"We are working hard to build a diversified economy and create good-paying jobs in Michigan," Granholm said. State of Michigan Continuing Efforts to Increase Accessibility, Expand Service for Unemployed Citizens

DoD Identifies Army Casualty: Staff Sgt. Kristopher D. Rodgers, 29, of Sturgis, Michigan

August 19, 2008 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Staff Sgt. Kristopher D. Rodgers, 29, of Sturgis, Michigan, died Aug. 16 in Korengal, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
