Mexico Protests Shooting Death of Illegal Immigrant on US Border
10 August 2007 -- Mexico is demanding the United States conduct an investigation following the shooting death of a man who allegedly tried to cross the border into the U.S. illegally.
U.S. authorities say a border patrol agent shot and killed a suspected smuggler of illegal immigrants on Wednesday at the fence that separates the southern U.S. city of El Paso, Texas, from Mexico. U.S. authorities say the man tried to hit the agent with a rock and was holding bolt cutters in his other hand. » read more »

07 August 2007 -- The head of Amnesty International, Irene Khan, who ended a week-long visit here, told Mexican officials fighting organized crime must be tempered with strict observance of human rights.
Irene Khan came to Mexico on a fact-finding mission. While here, she met with President Felipe Calderon, the foreign minister, minister of the interior, among others.

Five Mexicans Charged in Canadian Drug Raid
19 June 2007 -- Canadian officials have seized 160 kilograms of cocaine and arrested five Mexican nationals in connection with the drugs.
Police say they discovered the cocaine in late May after it was shipped to the Port of Montreal from Mexico.
They say the five have visitor status in Canada and face charges of drug possession and trafficking.
The cocaine was said to have been stashed in plastic bags of four kilograms each and hidden in a shipment of frozen mashed mango.

Tropical Storm Hits Mexico
02 June 2007 -- Tropical Storm Barbara has made landfall near the border between Mexico and Guatemala.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the Pacific storm could dump up to 50 centimeters of rain in parts of southeastern Mexico and Guatemala. That could trigger life-threatening flash floods and mud slides.
When the storm hit land early Saturday, it had sustained winds of 85 kilometers-an-hour, with higher gusts. It was expected to weaken as it moved inland. » read more »
