Dianne Feinstein: Statement of Senator Feinstein on CIA Report Detailing pre-911 Errors

August 22, 2007 -- Washington, DC – On Tuesday the Central Intelligence Agency released a report detailing mistakes made by the agency prior to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, including the failure of top agency officials to sufficiently comprehend the threats facing the nation in the summer of 2001.

The report by the agency’s Inspector General also showed that CIA leaders allowed bureaucratic red tape to impede the CIA’s efforts to capture al-Qaeda terrorists – despite promises in the late 1990s of a robust war against terror.    » read more »

CIA Inquiry on 9/11 Says Agency Lacked Counterterorrism Plan

22 August 2007 -- A newly released report by the inspector general for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) says the former head of the agency failed to develop an effective counterterrorism strategy before the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.

CIA Releases Documents on Abuses of 1960s, 1970s

26 June 2007 -- The Central Intelligence Agency released hundreds of pages of documents Tuesday about past agency abuses that sparked outrage and investigations in the 1970s. The documents contain no startling new revelations. But they paint a more detailed portrait of an agency under siege for some of its activities at home and abroad.

The documents, known collectively as the family jewels, detail plots by the CIA and other agencies to assassinate Fidel Castro and engage in domestic intelligence activities.    » read more »

Rights Group Sues Boeing Subsidiary Over CIA Terror Transfers

30 May 2007 -- A private legal defense group is suing a U.S. aviation corporation, accusing it of helping the CIA secretly transport three terrorism suspects to overseas prisons, where they were allegedly tortured. Victoria Cavaliere reports from VOA's New York bureau.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit Wednesday in a federal court in California. The suit accuses Jeppesen Dataplan, a subsidiary of the giant Boeing Corporation, of knowingly providing the CIA with flight plans and travel logistics in order to shuttle terror suspects to foreign prisons for interrogation.    » read more »
