Residents of Lamar and Pickens counties may be eligible for assistance resulting from the severe storms and tornadoes that passed through the area on January 10. January 16, 2008 -- OZARK – Alabamians wanting to work in the state’s growing aerospace and aviation industry can receive specialized training at a new Aviation Training Center that Alabama Governor Bob Riley and other officials dedicated today at the Ozark campus of Enterprise-Ozark Community College.

Alabama Governor Riley Urges Passage of Health Care Incentive
January 15, 2008 -- DECATUR – More Alabamians would have health care coverage if small businesses had a financial incentive to offer health insurance to their employees, Alabama Governor Bob Riley told members of the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce Tuesday.
The Governor will be proposing such an incentive plan when the Legislature begins its 2008 session in February.

January 02, 2008 -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Pfc. Joseph R. Berlin Jr., 21, of Chelsea, Alabama, died Dec. 30 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident.
He was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
The incident is under investigation.
