Tampa Bay Rays agree to Terms with Pitcher Dan Wheeler
01/15/2008, ST. PETERSBURG -- The Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to terms with right-handed relief pitcher Dan Wheeler on a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration.
Dan Wheeler, 30, was acquired from the Houston Astros last July 28 in exchange for infielder Ty Wigginton. He pitched in 25 games after joining the Rays, working 25.0 innings with 26 strikeouts and a 5.76 ERA. The set-up man established career highs last season with 74.2 IP and 82 strikeouts overall while issuing just 23 walks. » read more »
Tampa Bay Rays Agree to Terms with Grant Balfour, Gary Glover
12/13/2007, ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays have agreed to terms with right-handed relief pitchers Grant Balfour and Gary Glover on one-year contracts, avoiding arbitration.
Grant Balfour, 29, made 22 appearances for the Rays last season after he was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers on July 27 for right-handed pitcher Seth McClung. He posted a 1-0 record and a 6.14 ERA, striking out 27 over 22 innings. The Australian native owns a career mark of 6-3 with a 5.44 ERA in 80 appearances with the Twins, Brewers and Rays. » read more »
