Feb 7, 2008 -- LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe has declared Baxter, Conway, Independence, Izard, Pope, Randolph, Sharp, Stone, Union and Van Buren Counties state disaster areas due to the damage caused by powerful tornadoes and violent thunderstorms on Tuesday, February 5. Alabama Governor Riley Requesting Federal Assistance, Declares State of Emergency in Three Counties

February 07, 2008 -- MONTGOMERY - Alabama Governor Bob Riley will seek a federal disaster declaration for areas of north Alabama hit by tornadoes on Wednesday. In addition, the Governor has declared a State of Emergency exists in Jackson, Lawrence and Walker counties.

Six deaths in Alabama have been attributed to the storms and dozens of homes have been destroyed or damaged. Local and state responders have been assessing damage and helping communities begin the recovery process.    » read more »

02/06/2008 -- Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen made an aerial tour Wednesday of Macon, Sumner and Trousdale Counties in the wake of deadly tornadoes that struck Tennessee on Tuesday. The storms resulted in an estimated 28 fatalities, 150 injuries and widespread damage in seven counties across Tennessee.

Bredesen spoke with first responders in Macon County, which was one of the hardest hit with more than 68 injured and 12 storm-related fatalities.    » read more »

Tornadoes Across US South Kill at Least 11

06 February 2008 -- U.S. law enforcement officials say at least 11 people have been killed and dozens injured as tornadoes and thunderstorms tore through parts of the U.S. south.

The U.S. National Weather Service reports severe weather swept across the lower Mississippi Valley, Southern Plains and Midwest Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Reports of tornadoes, wind damage and hail came from Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri.    » read more »
