$439 Million for Barrier Island Restoration Included in Supplemental Appropriations Bill

June 18, 2009 -- WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., applauded today’s passage of the FY 2009 Supplemental Appropriations bill, legislation containing funding for Hurricane Katrina recovery in addition to needed funding for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. May 26, 2009 -- WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today issued the following statement after President Barack Obama nominated Judge Sonia Sotomayor to fill the upcoming vacancy on the Supreme Court:

“Just as the Constitution provides the president the power to nominate a candidate to the Supreme Court, it also gives the Senate an essential role in providing ‘advice and consent.’

"It is important that Judge Sotomayor be treated fairly and that her confirmation process be thorough. I look forward to examining her record, experience, and judicial temperament and philosophy as this process moves forward.”

May 26, 2009 -- WASHINGTON – Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has released $4,778,461 in funding for airports across the state of Mississippi. Funding for the grants, administered by the Federal Aviation Administration, was provided through the Fiscal Year 2009 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies appropriations bill.

“These federal dollars will improve transportation infrastructure by providing greater efficiency, security, and safety at our local airports,” Sen. Wicker said. “In the process, this investment will help Mississippi remain economically competitive in the future.”
