Overseas telemarketers use credit card offers to steal your personal information

March 18, 2008 -- Raleigh: Scammers are using robo calls that promise better rates on credit cards to try to steal your identity and run up charges in your name, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper warned today.

“These scammers are out to steal your information and your money, not help you get a better credit card,” Cooper said. “If you get one of these calls, hang up and call my office instead."    » read more »

Colorado Robocall Ban Comes Before Committee For Vote

02/13/2008 -- (DENVER) - Colorado Attorney General John Suthers will testify before the Colorado Senate committee on State, Veterans, and Military Affairs regarding Senate Bill 146, sponsored by Senator Paula Sandoval (D-Denver) and Representative Larry Liston (R-Colorado Springs). SB-146 would ban most robocalls in the state of Colorado, with exceptions for schools and public safety organizations.

Chairman Feinstein, Senator Specter Introduce Measure to Regulate Robocalls

February 12, 2008 -- Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) today introduced legislation to regulate robocalls.

The measure introduced by Feinstein and Specter would not ban robocalls, but instead places sensible restrictions on how and when the calls can be made – including limiting the hours within which calls can be made, limiting the number of calls that can be made to each household, and requiring callers to identify themselves at the beginning of the call.    » read more »
