Colorado Governor Ritter Signs Bills To Help Struggling Families
June 2, 2009 -- Colorado Governor Bill Ritter and more than a dozen state agencies, nonprofits and service providers today hosted an opportunity and help fair at the Capitol for working families struggling to survive the economic downturn.
At the fair, Gov. Ritter also signed into law six bills that will help families through this challenging time, including measures that extend unemployment benefits and provide a foreclosure "time-out" to responsible homeowners.
"We must do everything we can to help those who are struggling, to keep Coloradans in their jobs, and to keep families in their homes," Gov. Ritter said. "Today we are providing direct and immediate assistance to working families and we will continue to do so in the months ahead. » read more »
HHS Makes Funding Available to Strengthen Non-Profits, Faith Based Groups
Strengthening Communities Fund is Supported by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
May 11, 2009 -- The Department of Health and Human Services today announced the availability of grants worth $50 million from the Strengthening Communities Fund, a new fund created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The fund will strengthen nonprofit and faith-based organizations that aid families and communities who are struggling in the economic downturn.
The Strengthening Communities Fund (SCF) is divided into two parts. The Nonprofit Capacity Building program will make one-time, two-year awards of up to $1 million to lead organizations that will use the funds to support other faith-based or secular nonprofit organizations. » read more »
President Obama to Request $50 Million to Identify and Expand Effective, Innovative Non-Profits
White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation to Coordinate Efforts
May 5, 2009 -- WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama, in his FY2010 budget, will ask Congress to provide $50 million in seed capital for the Social Innovation Fund to identify the most promising, results-oriented non-profit programs and expand their reach throughout the country.
Many solutions to our nation’s most challenging social problems are being generated outside of Washington; the Social Innovation Fund will identify what is working in communities across the country, provide growth capital for these programs, and improve the use of data and evaluation to raise the bar on what programs the government funds. » read more »
